She was our first woman prime-minister - a significant personal achievement, especially for the daughter of a grocer from Grantham, born in 1925 Shock

Also I agree with those that say these ceremonial occasions are something we do really well in Britain.

So AIBU to be watching this morning - in spite of disagreeing with many of her policies ? Will you be watching ?
And what do you make of both her personal achievement and her legacy ?

Falling star I think they had small service for family last night and will have another later on at crem.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2013 10:27

Sam Cam is looking a tad too cheerful for a funeral.

DontmindifIdo · 17/04/2013 10:27

Worra - no, people camped out??? Why? Still, at least they weren't with the others who were all arriving at 8:30-9am - meaning they travelled during key commute times when the tube is like a vision of hell...

Loving the pomp and ceremony as well. Also admired her as a politician.

Time for DC to sit down now and stop looking like he's enjoying himself so much.

BeckyBrandon · 17/04/2013 10:28

I really hope nothing bad happens, have a horrible feeling.

Mamf74 · 17/04/2013 10:29

I'm deeply torn on this; on one hand she was a divided communities in such a spiteful way and was so willfully ignorant of the repercussions of the decisions of her party.

But... on the other hand she was one of the last Political leaders who came from the bottom up, no university Politics degree or rarified life from the off. She worked to get into politics, then the Leadership of her party, then as Prime Minister. Not sure many current cabinet or shadow cabinet members can say that.

wasabipeanut · 17/04/2013 10:29

I am watching. I feel surprisingly sad actually. She was remarkable and what she achieved against so many obstacles was incredible. Whether you agree with her policies or not I think few could argue that she wasn't a trail blazer. She was our first woman PM and sadly I feel like she is probably going to be the last.

She makes politicians of all colours today look pretty pathetic.

I feel as if she shaped mine and my families life because she provided the economic back ground to allow my parents to prosper which we all benefited from.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2013 10:29

Where's the coffin going now?

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/04/2013 10:29

Dimbleby also just made a mistake about South Africa ... saying de Clerke had said "she wasn't against apartheid just against sanctions against apartheid" - I don't think that's quite what he meant to say is it ? Shock

I switched on Daybreak this morning, I'd forgotten it was the funeral today TBH as there's been a bit of a news blackout in this house as I can't bear the sycophancy.
I can't believe people camped out all night.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2013 10:31

Yes, I was puzzled by the apartheid comment.

Salbertina · 17/04/2013 10:31

Thats what MT always claimed... Didn't see sanctions as effective tool against apartheid but said she was against it herself.. Am not so sure but apparently Nelson believed her!

Branleuse · 17/04/2013 10:32

Has mark Thatcher cried yet?? Has he? has he?

worth watching for that alone

Sam Cam Shock. She's supposed to be design literate, why is she channelling Princess Anne?

Cheesymonster · 17/04/2013 10:33

sparklekitty my DH is there as a PC too. Totally understand the worrying Sad, he worked at the riots too.

VivaLeBeaver · 17/04/2013 10:33

The way dimbleby said it made it sound like she favoured apartheid.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 10:34

Do you think SamCam's bow front blouse is in honour of Mags?
