She was our first woman prime-minister - a significant personal achievement, especially for the daughter of a grocer from Grantham, born in 1925 Shock

Also I agree with those that say these ceremonial occasions are something we do really well in Britain.

So AIBU to be watching this morning - in spite of disagreeing with many of her policies ? Will you be watching ?
And what do you make of both her personal achievement and her legacy ?

many

cjel · 17/04/2013 10:40

Don't - the fact she had got herself through uni to be mixing with Millionaires she did on her own?

whiteandyellowiris · 17/04/2013 10:40

the horses look unsettled

YoniMaroney · 17/04/2013 10:40

why does dimbleby keep blathering.

Maggysinge · 17/04/2013 10:41

Oh dry your eyes dawndonna. When this is all over everyone who is not filled with hatred etc will move on while all your lot are still frothing and spewing your bile and going grrrrrrrrr at your computer screen.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 10:41

Ach, can we not just talk about the frocks this morning?

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 10:41

That middle horse at front of procession is massive!

DeniseBurke · 17/04/2013 10:42

I'm boycotting TV and Radio coverage and wearing red. never mind the politics but the money spent on the funeral could be put to better use, early years and childcare greatly underfunded as is the adult care system.
The woman robbed families of their jobs and broke communities, yes we should pay respect to the dead, but she isn't a heroine and should be laid to rest the same as the majority of us without pomp and ceremony.

NigellasGuest · 17/04/2013 10:42

I am sick to death of Dimblebies dominating our airwaves and screens.
Down with this sort of thing!

Mrsrobertduvall · 17/04/2013 10:42

Well I am watching. I love a bit of pomp.

And the Chelsea Pensioners (bless them)

Chockyeggpants · 17/04/2013 10:42

Thatcher WAS good for women because she succeeded on merit and not positive discrimination in favour of women.
Encourage women in all areas of life to succeed, yes, but don't discriminate in favour of us. I find it really patronising. Men will only be convinced women are just as capable if we win on merit alone.

whiteandyellowiris · 17/04/2013 10:43

one horse is nipping the other

JakeBullet · 17/04/2013 10:44

You're a one to talk Maggy, you have posted plenty of froth and bile in your time Hmm

NigellasGuest · 17/04/2013 10:44

oh, I have a Horse Factoid!
Apparently these special black ones are only good at galloping and have been trained for a whole week to walk slowly.

JugglingFromHereToThere · 17/04/2013 10:44

Perhaps they silenced the bells of Big Ben in case anyone in the crowd broke into a spontaneous rendition of "Ding Dong the Witch is dead !" - personally I found that song making the charts this week quite amusing.

Just because it's a funeral we don't have to all leave go of our critical faculties. I'm sure she made some mistakes. But then it would be hard to be prime-minister for a decade and not do so.

Men in uniform...bring on the eye candy...

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 10:44

She was an iconic leader.

Bowlersarm · 17/04/2013 10:44

Huge crowd. I wasn't expecting so many to turn out

Fluttershy · 17/04/2013 10:44

Not surprised there is booing. This is a political event, if they wanted a funeral they should have kept it private. You can't detatch a sad personal event from its political context in this case.

YoniMontana · 17/04/2013 10:45

I've not read the whole thread but does anyone else think it's a bit distasteful of people to be taking pictures?

Chockyeggpants · 17/04/2013 10:45

Has Her Maj got ANOTHER new car??

YoniMaroney · 17/04/2013 10:45

I think it's very symbolic, because she and Major were the last of a generation that has now passed into history, before the passage to the dishonest sheen of Blair and Cameron.

whiteandyellowiris · 17/04/2013 10:45

this really is way ott

juneybean · 17/04/2013 10:45

Argh gstq never fails to bring a tear

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 10:45
