She was our first woman prime-minister - a significant personal achievement, especially for the daughter of a grocer from Grantham, born in 1925 Shock

Also I agree with those that say these ceremonial occasions are something we do really well in Britain.

So AIBU to be watching this morning - in spite of disagreeing with many of her policies ? Will you be watching ?
And what do you make of both her personal achievement and her legacy ?

What I find quite ironic is that many of the people complaining very loudly about the cost are the very same people who are likely to be rioting/demonstrating on the back of it. The cost would be far, far less in terms of security and crowd control if they could be trusted to just go about their day as normal and ignore the whole thing, and then complain about to one another in the pub later, instead of using it as an excuse for attention seeking publicity stunts and anarchic jollies.

I'm watching, Cameron basically saying "nothing to do with me mate"

But my lord, £10m - when we haven't done this for other PMs who've died...

dimbleby read the card out wrong as well

it clearly says always in our hearts

he said it reads always in our minds

Putting it on a week day is a bit off too - I've taken the day off because at 32 weeks pregnant, I find the commute hard enough without having the extra crowds. I spent a lot of last week once the date was announced cancelling appointments for my boss because so much of London is shut today, logistically, it's not possible. Most of our office were doing the same thing - it's basically taken a day out of the first week back after all the schools have gone back (so holidays have finished and we can get people together again) - a saturday would have involved a lot less disruption considering she was such a champion of business...

Yes you are right Lotta, definitely for the police and other people there I hope there's not trouble.

TBh now the coffin is on the Gun Carriage I am wondering if there will be more protest.

whiteandyellowiris · 17/04/2013 10:22

she needed a praivate ceremony for her family and frinds....that's it. Yes she was PM (it was her job!) but she was also a wife, mum and gran.

You really need privacy at a funeral ....not the whole wolrd and all its horses watching! And the cost....

juneybean · 17/04/2013 10:24

The lighting makes them all look like oompah loompahs

DontmindifIdo · 17/04/2013 10:24

Not a chance - not intending to watch any news programmes today. The expense is enough to make me angry, especially at a time like this. So many better thing for it to be spent on - as I'm sure those who are unable to have life saving treatment/ drugs due to cost would agree.

Interesting that the Daily Fail was screaming about Mark Thatcher not being bothered to see his mother over Xmas and what a terrible son he was but now. according to them, he's apparently grief stricken and a loving son.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 10:25

I couldn't believe the people they showed on Daybreak, who'd camped out all night just to get a front row spot Shock

Some people really have nothing better to do.

Horsemad · 17/04/2013 10:26

I thought Dimbleby read that wrong! Thought I'd misheard him.

NotTreadingGrapes · 17/04/2013 10:26

I think, in all fairness to Mark T (and believe me the word fairness and a Thatcher does stick in my craw) not sure I would be able to spend Christmas with the shell of a woman who no longer knew who I was.
