To think 'place marking' is pretty vulgar

Why do people think it is acceptable to shamelessly post on a thread to say nothing more than they are marking their place?

If they are that interested in the topic, surely they can make a comment that is relevant and still marks their place.

What about on a fast moving thread like the yoni one where the are pages to go through every time you refresh?

Easier said than done if on a mobile or app.

Rosesforrosie · 16/04/2013 20:47

I know what vulgar means thanks though Grin

I think you need to get a grip because you are ascribing stringent moral values to the Internet.

You are also doing this entirely on your own terms. You have decided that place marking is vulgar. Why do you get to police other users manners?

That is why you got a spluttering response from me OP.

Marks place.

cakeandcava · 16/04/2013 20:48

I only ever see people mark places on humorous, non-serious threads, or controversial threads that are about an issue (rather than a person iyswim). The ones with serious, personal questions or problems don't get this -most people do have some tact. So I think yabu :)

Just to annoy you Blush

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 16/04/2013 20:49

sanity how do you bookmark a thread on the mobile site?

Tee2072 · 16/04/2013 20:49

It's leftover from those of us who have been here since before bookmarking and watching and it was all fields around here.

You don't own MN. You don't get to dictate what we can and can't post.

PeppaFuckingPig · 16/04/2013 20:50

Down with this sort of thing!

Bearbehind · 16/04/2013 20:50

hully I didn't say it was 'discusting' or 'disgusting' for that matter or 'sick' just vulgar and pointless.

Bear
AnyaKnowIt · 16/04/2013 20:52

How do you bookmark?

Hullygully · 16/04/2013 20:53

Yes barebehind but I think it is discusting myself

it's something that really really gets my goat and on my wick

usualsuspect · 16/04/2013 20:53

Everyone rubbernecks on the internet.

liitlebearpad your bookmark is fine- at least it doesn't need reading and I am jealous as I don't know how to do that.

TBH full stops or [biscuits] don't bother me as much as words which need reading before you move on!

Vulgar vulgar vulgar. Can't remember who said that. It might have been something to do with Sarah Feguson.

FrustratedSycamoresRocks · 16/04/2013 20:56

Is a bear bum a bit like a cats bum?

Do completely irrelevant comments wind you up too, or is it just place marking? (Genuine question btw)

thermalsinapril · 16/04/2013 20:56

Nothing wrong if people "lurk" on a thread without posting - that's par for the course on the internet.

It's a bit of an annoying waste of time to read "marking my place" posts though. They don't add anything.

Bearbehind · 16/04/2013 20:56

Bugger, it appears I can't even book mark properly! I meant Biscuit

OP posts:
Rosesforrosie · 16/04/2013 20:57

Gets your goat Hully? Shock

You want to take better care of that goat, stop it running off like.

Bearbehind · 16/04/2013 20:59

Nothing like a cats bum 'frustrated' but genuinely- irrelevant comments due to posters not reading anything other than the OP do wind me up though.

I think I maybe need to take a chill pill or spend less time on the Internet Grin

Tee2072 · 16/04/2013 21:01

So the real problem is that it takes you too long to read:

marking place

?

MyDarlingClementine · 16/04/2013 21:02

Loads of threads about place marking.

Can't get my head around why it annoys people so much.

But, Vulgar?

Could one say a whole thread about place marking is therefore....

obscene?

Bearbehind · 16/04/2013 21:04

Kind of tee if people didn't fill threads with bookmarks then there would be less posts so it would be easier to find your place- no?
