I think the reason it didn't meet with more skepticism from the off was (aspiring trolls take note) the OP didn't initially ask 'Is it a ghost? Am I being a bit hysterical and silly? Please calm me down!' but rather went with 'I'm very upset, please comfort me'.

Psychologically, once you've given a poster a virtual hug, you are more inclined to trust them, to believe what they say, and to defend them from people saying 'well that's a bit farfetched, isn't it?'

I loved the way everyone piled in with a ghost story esp that bloke with the really long one perfectly written in a rising crescendo of terror without actually saying anything.

Still had to have a chat with my self last night though I even thought perhaps I will ring Father Mick to bless the house after all.

That's the one. The great climax of the story was that he nearly lost his two best friends because of his scary, haunted house. No, they weren't nearly killed or anything...they just both he was a nutter his house was too creepy. End of story.

I posted a genuine story about I young a new house that turned out to be haunted. No joke, no BS. We had no experience of that kind of thing and haven't since. Maybe the OP was making it up but maybe she wasn't. Imagine that? Someone feeling intimidated by others' opinions?!!! Give me a break!
