Oh, I was a bit suprised by the deletion. Made no sense. Just PM'd someone I remember from the thread about it, before noticing this one..

Just a bit annoyed, because I had made some factual points (not cited references, but I could have, if it had been requested) that might also be of use to others doing searches on MN later on, but well... hey ho. Who comes to MN for scientific advice, anyway? Grin

Somebody said their house was haunted and there were posters here who didn't think that was made up total bollocks? Hmm

I'm bummed I missed this thread. Just goes to show it doesn't pay to switch the internet off for a bit.

I got to page 6, then annoyingly my little girl decided she didnt want to go to sleep. When I came back - poof! I did get to the bit with the vicar though so I'm glad I didn't miss too much. We have just had an offer accepted on a victorian house. I hope we don't have any unwanted types in the new house!

Gutted to have missed this one, sounded like a cracker!

It was more a woman, having just moved, with a kid waking up the house screaming at night about an unfirendly ghost ...appearing to (with husband) start to let her judgement get a bit clouded and caught up in a fear feeds fear cycle.

It happens.

And then the theatrical vicar turned up and it got a bit Hmm

The fact that I didn't suspect the vicar was made up, might be due to my already rather low opinion of some churchy people Grin

I have to say I think me giving the BOD from that point was in part influenced by the wednesday night exploitative mass exorcisims up the road. While I really like the other local priest the exorscit one makes my lip curl and I can't fully discount the suspition that his CofE equivilant must be lurking around somewhere.

Isn't it hilarious that some posters are sceptical over the vicar, rather than the ghost :o ?

I think it was the specification that the eyerolling, handwaving, holy-water-chucking vicar was CofE that made it start sounding a bit dodgy. The CofE, being the state superstition, has commitees and middle management coming out of its arse, so the average CofE number would be 'Oh dear, let's say a prayer, all better now' and bugger off, not start ullulating about bringing in the left-footers.

Report
AmberLeaf · 04/04/2013 20:57

Actually, there are definitely CofE vicars that do the whole convoluted 'blessing' (exorcism?) Of places.

Really not just catholic and none of them make money from it either.

I was reading the thread though and thought it was a bit suss after the OPs 2nd post.

I'm crap with names. I admit I'll have to smother a slightly strangled gurgle noise that is nothing like a restrained giggle at alll, if you've spotted a "realistically speaking" pro ghost;anti theatrical vicar poster.

Our local rector back home was hugely theatrical and High Church. He'd have adored a good old exorcism.

I'm gutted I missed a good woo bunfight. :(

I think a vicar would be very sensitive to a genuine plea from someone who thought their house had a Presence.

See that's what I thought. So I was "do what!" when she got one of the rare "The Am Dram baskets won't give me the lead, so I'll make my theatre where I find it" candidate.

But you horrible lot refuse to carry on as UK 1989 and keeping changing behind my back, so I'm never quite sure if my cultural benchmarks are accurate or not.

Sarahstratton Loong time! Hope Little Dog is good! You did miss a good un!!! I'm a little gutted I didn't get to read the last posts..I got up to the vicar being very dramatic. Reading it last night, esp with the squirrel/rat/mouse up in the loft being over active, didn't lead to a great sleep!

It wasn't actually all that bunfighty was it ?

No deleted posts and while there was some random non specific made up accusations of piss taking, slagging off the OP etc I don't remember any actual personal attacks.

I thought it was pretty civilized really.

Do I have low standards ?

I was sceptical of the vicar running back to the skirts of the Catholic Church, too!

There was a really Creative Writing-y ("little did I know") bit in there from a male poster, but I did recognise some regulars.

I would have loved a Flamboyant Vicar to lighten the tone

It was a flamboyant vicar with ACTUAL DIALOGUE between vicar and ghost too.

With extra added furrowed brow and worried expression after, probably due to vicar's apparent belief that a shouting match with a ghost happens in another dimension and the (allegedly) terrified people the other side of the door all suffer from sudden and temporary supernatural deafness during ectoplasmic chit chat.

This was flamboyant with style.Grin

Bugger. What thread can I jion in for an hour befor I finally get telly rights?

I'm all dandered up for the good tussle I was in, and my bone has been snatched from under my nose Sad
