ds is so moody he's driving me insane

he is only five, so why the heck is he so grumpy and particular about everything! Its getting to the point that I dread something not going his way because hes so sulky. am I alone in moody five year old land ?

not got to 5years yet but I have a sulky 14 week old. He's so bloody whiny - can't seem to handle being a baby. Hoping things will improve as he becomes more able to do things.

Honestly - it's got to the point that if he were an adult, i'd be telling him to get a bloody grip! lol

DS1 is the same. He used to be so easy going, but he seems to be in a permanent strop atm. Having a little brother who disagrees with everything doesn't help either. It's a nightmare!

Has he started school yet OP? I've heard they can be really foul when they start as they're knackered and having to behave all day. Something to look forward to in sept for us!

hes in year one, he is soooo grouchy! two weeks off school I really thought he would be cheery!

He will be growing. Is he eating more than normal.

yep and not fitting in most of his clothes looks like hee going boating can that really make him such a flaming grouch though

This is an old thread, but it's what I was thinking of. I think it happens again at 7

he is driving me demented, so sulky. nothing is ever good enough for him and no matter what it is it is always my fault. I feel awful and on eggshells waiting for the next grump. I am not soft actually I think I'm relatively tough or I've certainly toughened up. we had a close family bereavement in December and Ive certainly noticed a change in his behaviour

Aw poor wee fella is probably still grieving. Have you talked about how he's feeling recently?

we have done so much to remember visit grave often, talk, have a memory box, have a memory garden at home. he talks about her often but never mentions her in the sense of saying this is why im sad/angry. after he has grouched for a while he will say he gets cross and he cant calm down so he strops. Feel awful, i know how he feels to be cross at the world but its always such silly things that kick it off

Yes, my 9 yr old son, has always gotten into moods... From the time he could talk, I'm sure... "Don't talk to me, don't look at me, don't touch me, leave me alone, don't call me names (honey, dear, sweetie)" No matter what I said it would upset him...

He still gets in those moods.

Just try to label how he is feeling, and if you can, label it when your in a mood too... "I am soo sad right now, I am very frustrated"... It gives a label to how they are feeling.

I did, you seem very sad...angry, upset, happy, etc.etc. IF your lucky enough to get a "yes/no" from him, see if you can pin point why...

oh, guess I can say, he will sometimes get so upset he just wants time alone... sometimes he will get soo mad at me, 10 min. later, comes to me like nothings wrong... SO, I'm learning...

Is your son like that?

something like that he just seems to get so angry. then 15 minutes later back to normal. a much better day today

Biggest thing I learned was to "PICK YOUR BATTLES"... lol... No sense in both of you getting worked up over something so small... esp. if he is like my son and get upset over the smallest things.

My son is 9 and still goes through days like this. I can usual tell by how he wakes him... "good morning, honey", ~ "don't call me names!" OKAY...it's going to be one of those mornings...after school he is happy.

You'll learn to adjust to these mood swings...things will work out.

I hope so :/ its really wearing and sucks the fun out of everything. not been too bad though think he just needs to learn to calm rather than let it take over

I agree they need to learn to calm themselves, and sometimes I don't think they really know why they are soo upset, or how to stop being so emotional. Encourage time outs when he can get a grasp on his emotions...

For a while my sister thought I was getting walked on because I wouldn't react to some trivial things... Until I explained, I'd rather turn a blind eye to him being upset over something silly, than to end up with a full blown fight!
