to not know how to make a bloody chocolate krispie cake!

Didnt have chance to make easter nests over last few days so promised ds1 we would do them today. Melted the choc with butter according to the recipe and the chocolate turned into a mass lump of grit! chucked that with a dissapointed ds but i had another bar in the cupboard so melted that without the butter this time and had lovely smooth melted chocolate added some syrup as per the recipe and bang a mass lump of grit again, wtf? im out of chocolate now :(

Melt chocolate, mix in lots and lots and of crispies but into cake cases and leave to harden.

Did you melt choc in microwave? If you're melting on a stove then it has to be in a bowl on a saucepan of simmering water. Sorry if this is patronising.

Melt chocolate over a low heat - forget butter and syrup, mix in loads of crispies and set in fridge.

yeah i done it on the hob and the second time without butter was fine till i added the syrup it set into a lump immediately ive seen loads of recipes saying to use them so confused as to what i did wrong, will just use chocolate next time need to buy some more though

Don't bother with the syrup! Just choc melted slowly in a glass bowl over a pan of lightly simmering water, stirring thoroughly. When all smooth and runny stir in as many rice crispies as possible.

Yes, leave out the butter and syrup, it's not needed.

If you're melting chocolate on it's own (I would usually use butter and golden syrup too in which case you should be able to do it directly in a saucepan on a low heat, but just chocolate should be fine as well), you need to do it in in a bowl over a pan of simmering water. Don't let the water touch the bottom of the bowl and don't get any water in the chocolate or it will seize. You can melt it in the microwave, but do it in 30 second bursts, stirring between each.

Cooking chocolate, melt in microwave at 30 seconds at a time, then add lots of crispies or cornflakes and mix well.

Cocoa powder, butter and syrup make the best stickiest shiniest nests ever.

No need for chocolate.

My fail safe crispy recipie is to heat the syrup first, add a bit of butter then stir in drinking chocolate powder. Easy.

Its turning to grit because you're getting water in the chocolate - even a tiny drop will have this effect.

Microwave. All the way.

1oz margarine
1tbsp caster sugar
1 tbsp golden syrup
Into a saucepan & melt, making sure the sugar is dissolved.
Remove from heat & add 1dsp cocoa powder.
Stir in about 7-8tbsp of cereal. Spoon into cases & leave to set!
This recipe makes about 6 crispy cakes that are a little softer than the standard chocolate recipe ones. I prefer them this way personally!

Great, now I'm going to have to go make more & scoff the lot! This has got to be my worst/most uncontrollable pregnancy craving! Blush

i definately didnt get water in i had even removed the second batch from the heat before i added the syrup and it still turned weird immediatly after adding the syrup. Going to buy more choc later and just do it with choc and krispies

actually i wonder if i can do anything with the second mixture its like a big squished up ball that tastes like sickly sweet marsbar resisting the urge to just chew on it lol

Put all the "melting" ingredients in together and stir them whilst they melt. Is surprisingly easy to burn chocolate.

So i had a little syrup left but no cocoa so adapted above recipe, used butter, syrup and hot chocolate left out sugar, added krispies tastes ok bit wet so worried might go soggy in fridge now, ds is happy that we attempted something so all good!

Don't add the syrup (or anything) after the chocolate has melted - it will make it seize.

Add the chocolate chunks and syrup to bowl over hot water. Stir until all melted together. Add cornflakes still over hot water. Put into paper cases. Cool. Eat.

50g butter/marg
2 level tbs drinking chic
1 tbs golden syrup
62g crispies

Melt butter gently. Stir in chocolate and syrup and mix well. Remove from heat and stir in crispies till evenly coated.

Pile into 12-15 cases. Leave to harden for 3o minutes
