AIBU to be pissed off a DD1s I.T Teacher???

Ok dd1 has came home since the February holiday telling me and dh stories about her IT teacher. In her words "She is grumpy, fat and would sooner yell at you for not listening before hearing your question". So curious me decided to ask my friend who's twins dds are in the same class and I heard similar clames.

While my dd1, who is very tech savvy has no bother, she has told me (and my friend told me her dds said) that if you can't understand her shouts (been told she always shouts for no reason)the you fall behind and get yelled at more.

So AIBU to be pissed off a DD1s I.T Teacher???

Almost forgot even though my dd has no problems in the class she is always scared after (due to teachers excessive yells)

YANBU to be pissed off that the shouting is getting people far behind but it shouldn't be the teacher you are pissed off at. Its unlikely that she shouts for no reason. I'd hazard a guess that some of the class misbehaves and she shouts because of that. Therefore you should be pissed off at the people in the class who are pushing her to her limit.

Some teachers are grumpy, some are lovely, imo the different teachers and approaches prepare them for life after school.

What has her weight got to do with anything though? Did you pull your daughter up on using that in her charming description?

Well my daughter actually said "Rather large around the waist, really " but her friend piped up and said she Is very fat.

In fact I don't actually know why I put that in but I will mention it at parents night that she is scaring my dd.

You can't expect a teacher not to shout because your dd is scared of loud noises though. How is she supposed to get the attention of the class or tell someone off?

What do you suggest the teacher do instead of shouting?

If your dd is really scared of her then you could maybe ask for her to change classes instead of telling the teacher how to do her job.

No teacher should have to shout, in an ideal world. I find it hard to see why it would be necessary in an IT class, but have witnessed it being needed in a particularly rowdy assembly (at a now closed-down Hammersmith middle school...)

Why would you be pissed off with the teacher if your child "has no bother"?
Your daughter is VERY rude though, what has the teacher's size got to do with anything. You should be pissed off with your daughter for being so unpleasant.

I think a discussion with your daughter on the description of her teacher is nasty, hopefully you've had a word with her regarding that. After that I'd be inclined to understand why the teacher Is shouting, the class are not showing her respect and she has to take control of teenagers.

It's not good that your daughter is scared and I wouldn't be thrilled about the shouting either. If it is really worrying you then you should contact the school.

I really don't know why you included a description of the teacher's size either. In my experience it's always best to discourage personal comments about teachers.

Definitely speak to the teacher.

It's just not on to be shouting to control your class.

When my DS was 15 he had an extremely nasty, shouty (and now I come to think of it ...fat...) Maths teacher.

When I went to parent/teacher interviews, I could see exactly what he meant.

She was horrible. Said my DS was brilliant at Maths but didn't communicate very well with her.

I said "That's because he thinks you shout too much and he's not used to people shouting. He doesn't even shout at his dog"

I have classes who think i am grumpy and a bit shouty. I also have classes who think I am the next best thing to Mary Poppins. Funnily enough, it's the naughtier classes who think I'm not very nice....

Write to ofsted and tell them that if a teacher is fat you expect them to be jolly.

Saying your DD aged ELEVEN shouldn't be in a class where the teacher shouts because she has a fear of loud noises is just about the most PFB thing I've ever seen on here. Have some Flowers

She's ELEVEN!!!

And as for the teacher being fat- that does not automatically make her a bad person. If it does then I must be a bad person. You don't know her story so don't judge her based on her weight.

I think YABU and I also find you offensive!

Perhaps, as others have said, you and the other parents could have a word with the kids about not calling the teacher names, and behaving a bit more in class so she doesn't have to shout?

Fat people are loud because they've got fat vocal chords. They give the naughtiest classes the fattest teachers. It's perfectly logical.
