Ha! I am from Perth Australia originally and this is part of the problem! I love London for all that it offers but it's the relentless grey days. And you get so excited when summer is on its way, stick up on summer clothing and then you might be lucky to get 2-3 weeks of nice weather then the wash-out happens and cold weather returns again! Ideally I would go to Singapore but it all comes down to jobs..... Moving kids from good school.... Etc etc

im desperate to move to the south of France. Still seasonal, still get a winter, but just not a hideous one, and a proper spring, and a long hot summer.

Plus no spiders that rot your flesh or cougars

Yanbu.

I'm not scared of spiders or snakes so I'll go anywhere. And I don't want blasted air con either, stuffy hot air actually makes me perk up .

I've heard by the time you see a cougar, they're an inch from taking your head off. They like a good stalking they do.

I have been told by somebody who lives there that South Africa is 25 degrees all year round and never humid. .

When we were in Perth in July, it was lovely, but resident neighbour told us we were lucky. It normally rains non-stop for 6 months in the winter, she said. < not for me, thank you>

YANBU we're thinking about it too. We have just moved back from South Wales to the midlands as we have a now 19 month old ds, but if this weather keeps up we're off to Spain!

Singapore is where we would love to go too lovedimsum! My hubby was born there and spent his first 5 years there (his dads job took them there), we love it! Hubby proposed to me in Raffles Grin

Beating off cougars? That surely is some sort of niche website. . .

digerd, our friends have not encountered much rain in their 15 months of living there!

Report
lovedimsum · 28/03/2013 22:28

Perth doesn't rain for 6 months of the year- mind you they would love it if it did so the lawns weren't brown almost all year round due to water restrictions!

Terry, I live in North America, you are terrifying me with the brown recluse spiders thing!

You are not being unreasonable. I said to dh just yesterday I'd learn to shoot and we can move to SA.

So, so sick of having to find coats, boots, gloves, scarves, hats very single time I want to leave the house! Two pairs of winter boots have bitten the dust and I will not buy anymore this winter. No! I will not give in to this narnia we seem to be stuck in.

(Think I may have SAD).

And parts of South Africa get really chilly in winter... my Dad lives there.

I've shivered my arse off in Africa.

So, I've been around, here are my reviews...

Italy: Nice weather and people. The official stuff and forms will put Kafka to shame. Great food. All the nice places are rammed with tourists.

Canada: Nice but white bread blah at times. They look South too much in their assessment of their culture.

The US of A: Individually the nicest people on the face of the world. Collectively, WTF?

Thailand: Beautiful, great weather, wonderful culture. Ruined by child molesters.

East Africa: Best weather of all. There are high up places near the equator with year round 20+ weather (Nairobi) but the leaders are nutters. And, tropical diseases and animals that want to kill you.

Australia/New Zealand: Lovely, great people, mostly good weather. In one, every single animal wants you dead and now and painfully. The other, no dangerous animals but the country wants to explode.

So what you're saying is I should stay here and layer up?

A jumper would be cheaper.

I live in the Caribbean. I'd be lying if I said it was crap but I've lived here 5 years and it took me all of about 2 years to get bored of the constant sunshine.
You always feel like you should be outside doing something energetic and I genuinely look forward to rainy days when I can sit on the sofa and watch Lord of The Rings without feeling guilty!
I do feel your pain though, I remember the horrendously long winters back in London. I hope it warms up soon, my poor parents are freezing their tits off!
