to wonder why boy and girl babygros button up differently?

So, a random check of my DD's babygros reveal that they adhere to the adult buttoning convention of left over right for boy (blue) babygros and right over left for girl (pink) babygros. Why? It's not like babies will be dressing themselves any time soon.

And who decides which way the unisex white ones will button?

Gender discrimination starts before they're even out of sleepsuits.

Why do they even do this for mens/women's clothes?

I don't get the gender button system anyway regardless of age.

Ooh well my poor DD wears some of my sons old sleepsuits, I guess she'll just have to learn to be ambidextrous :o

Didn't it start that kings would have servants so they fastened up a different way as it was being done by someone else from the front. Or something??

I've never noticed this, my DD has sleep suits fastening on both sides but she has a mix of unisex, girls and boys ones.

I've never noticed - I have b/g twins although tbh I just stick them in whatever comes out of the drawer first - will have a look tomorrow!

They do it with baby knitting patterns too. I just follow the pattern as is, because I can't go off-pattern, without it all going wrong, and place on a baby of appropriate size, regardless of genitalia!

Trainee men would dress themselves but women would have a maid to dress them so they button up for a right handed person to either dress themselves (man) of dress someone else ( woman)

Isn't it something to do with swords and having someone to dress them?

I'm a bit short on boy babygros but the couple I did have to hand definitely went the other way. Could be a coincidence, but Jessie's comment about knitting patterns suggests otherwise.

Zips eliminate the spare popper conundrum.

I've never seen a sleepsuit with a zip!

I have checked my ds's babygrows, most of them are "girl" babygrows and they button down the left, he has one blue one which buttons down the right side, very strange!

Noble lots of ds's sleepsuits have zips, much easier in the middle of the night!

I never knew this about clothes in general. I just checked my cardigan and what do you know, it buttons up right over left. You learn something new everyday dashes off to wardrobe to check all other cardigans
