to be angry with my neighbour about a spoon?

It may sound petty, but two months ago my neighbour had a coffee morning (I wasn't invited, fine, we aren't best buds or anything), and she asked me if she could borrow some teaspoons. I lent her four, and she gave three back a few days later. They were wrapped up inside a napkin so I didn't notice until she'd gone that one was missing. Time just went by without seeing each other so there wasn't a casual opportunity to mention it.

I know it's only a teaspoon, but I feel really angry that she has basically stolen it. I don't feel I can mention it now because it's been too long and it is only a spoon, but I feel angry everytime I make a cup of tea and am reminded. I can't help thinking she must know. They are quite distinctive sppons, she must know when she sees it that it isn't hers.

Hully you seem to be terribly overwrought about a spoon. Is therecomething worrying you?

Delayingtactic · 26/03/2013 18:39

Fuck I wouldn't know know whether a spoon was mine or not. I have a random non matching bunch with some fancy ones thrown in by my mom in the hope I'll become posher. I'll check though, maybe I've got it.

But bloody hell who burns tables? And borrowed tables at that?! I'd be having words (and a new table) about that!

FarleyD · 26/03/2013 18:57

Drugs. I'll say no more. And be very very careful with Roger, he could be playing a dangerous game here. DO NOT leave him alone or else he may slip a little something in your sherry.

FarleyD · 26/03/2013 18:59

She burnt your table? Wow, I like her style. "Shall I give it back? No, can't be bothered, I'll just chuck it on the fire, she'll never notice".

Our neighbour once tried to sell ds his ball back when he went to ask for it back.

bringonyourwreckingball · 26/03/2013 19:03

Before dh was my dh he and a friend made tea in my kitchen and hid all my teaspoons in ingenious places. I had no teaspoons for months and every time he came round he would 'find' one. When the friend was round next (months later) he was making a cup of tea, reached up into my cooker hood and pulled out my last teaspoon.

I still don't trust dh with the silverware.

toddlerama · 26/03/2013 19:11

I feel a sort of grudging admiration for the table burner. Other peoples tat litters the unit in my hall way whilst I wait for an opportunity to return it. Most of it I did not want to borrow, they've just scattered through my house when visiting. I'd like to just torch it. Especially other people's DC's socks.

Hullygully · 26/03/2013 19:11

that is just not right, wrecking

Roger and I have partaken of the fino and he has confided that for years she has gone by the soubriqet of Light Fingered Lily Shock

Are you sure you can trust Roger? He sounds a bit shifty to me. I think he's stirring things between you and Lily.

Hullygully · 26/03/2013 19:15

Roger is a magistrate and a lion of the rotary club, I believe him unimpeachable

TippiShagpile · 26/03/2013 19:18

Roger the Magistrate? Why didn't you say? My table burning "friend" was dogging with him on Sunday evening. Nice chap apparently.

Tee2072 · 26/03/2013 19:20

Rotary Club has lions? I had no idea.

FarleyD · 26/03/2013 19:22

Ah well, if he's a magistrate bribe him for info on Lily's past indiscretions, then blackmail Lily into giving the spoon back. Sorted.

Hullygully · 26/03/2013 19:24

roger doesn't dog, he had a frightful accident which had left a shortfall in the required dept. so sad, it's why he pits somuch effort into good works and home brewing

OP posts:
TheEasterQODdy · 26/03/2013 19:25

I need to know if it's a little big spoon or a big little spoon

Dd had a real spoon issue when she was young. Dear god the arguments we had . ...

FarleyD · 26/03/2013 19:29

Poor Roger. Did his accident involve cutlery of any description? I must say, if he's into his homebrew, the least he could have done was to bring you some round tonight to console you for all the stress this spoon incident is causing you. Would you like me to send dh round to intercede between you and Lily? He's a very good mediator, and I can't but help think Roger is not man enough for the job.

FarleyD · 26/03/2013 19:30

I must admit I have taken Roger in strong dislike, I cannot help myself.

HazeltheMcWitch · 26/03/2013 19:31

He's got Hesaltine Hair, hasn't he? I can see him now.
Does he wear snazzy salmon-coloured trousers too?

DameEdnaBeverage · 26/03/2013 19:34

Maybe knock on her door and challenge her to a peg 'n' spoon race - winner takes all!

Hullygully · 26/03/2013 19:35

roger is from lombok, so he mostly wears a sarong, jacket and cravat

Hullygully · 26/03/2013 19:36

you have taken Roger in strong dislike?

despite his inadequacy? I admire your inventiveness

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 26/03/2013 19:37

I am getting a very odd mental picture of Roger...

FarleyD · 26/03/2013 19:38

He is not as inadequate as he would have you believe. Home brew can be a marvellous restorative, so he tells me.

ChippingInIsEggceptional · 26/03/2013 19:41

Hully - you're as mad as a box of frogs Grin

Hullygully · 26/03/2013 19:42

roger is clearly a sly fox. I shall ask his husband Derek for an explanation

OP posts:
TippiShagpile · 26/03/2013 19:42

He's a dog watcher, not doer. His "accident" left him unable to participate. He's also captain of the local golf club.
