To tell my mother... ADVICE NEEDED :(

GoldenSilence · 24/03/2013 20:19

Hi..
I'm knew to this, but really need some advice.

I'm 19 and currently live at home with my parents, last night I happened to walk past the computer while my dad was logged on (He'd left it to nip upstairs). I don't know why, but I happened to glance at the screen and saw a conversation he was having, with another woman, on FaceBook.

I have no idea who this woman was, her name wasn't known to me, and it deffo wasn't my mum, whom he's been married to for nearly 21 years.

I think I've been suspicious of what he's been doing on the computer for a while, there's a lot of quick screen changes ect when you enter the room, and he spends the majority of his time outside of work on there.

However, I never expected them to be true, I'm quite an anxious person, but what I saw last night has really shocked me, from the small part of conversation, My DF told this woman he loved her and brb, the woman replied with you too, to which my dad had answered with 'nooooooo' so she replied, "oh, love you more

It's cold up there on the moral high ground.

Selks · 24/03/2013 21:50

For crying out loud.....why are so many people on here having a pop at the OP??

Can people not just answer her question and offer some advice? Well done those who have.

Why do so many threads on MN these days start this way with people laying into the OP, picking apart the OP's posts on irrelevant points and making snide comments? It's bullying behaviour quite frankly.

ShipwreckedAndComatose · 24/03/2013 21:51

I am speaking as one of those who has hit the report button..

HildaOgden · 24/03/2013 21:53

It was a genuine question,Salmotrutta, why do people not just press 'report'?

Salmotrutta · 24/03/2013 21:55

I don't normally say this but I hit report too.

Salmotrutta · 24/03/2013 21:57

I could ask you Hilda why you don't just ignore people who post things you feel are snipey?

TrampyPanterNoster · 24/03/2013 21:57

I wish I'd found MN when I was a teenager.

I would definitely tell your mum. Then she can never think that you hid this from her. If it turns out it was nothing, all will be fine and work itself out. Otherwise... surely we would all want to know, if we were the mum?

Purple2012 · 24/03/2013 22:04

Why are people reporting? I can see this would be a real dilemma. I hope you get it sorted OP

HildaOgden · 24/03/2013 22:11

I usually do Salmotrutta, but not when they post directly after another poster has revealed that they, too, had experienced a very similar experience to the OP.

Like I said, sometimes it's just better to hit 'report',I can't see what is to be gained from doing otherwise.

CatherineMumsnet · 24/03/2013 22:41

Hi all, can we remind you that we don't allow troll hunting on the boards. If you have concerns about a poster please report them to us.

HildaOgden · 24/03/2013 23:00

Can it be assumed that the op wasn't a troll,CatherineMumsnet,as none of her posts were deleted even though some posters said on thread that they reported them?

Salmotrutta · 24/03/2013 23:05

If the OP isn't a troll I apologise.

We'll see.

There have been a lot recently.

Selks · 24/03/2013 23:12

Yes and also far too many people quick to jump on any new poster who may well be genuine and who may now be put off posting. There has been far too much of this lately.

MaryNoMateZ · 25/03/2013 08:28

Well, this thread has got interesting.

Hilda, we can assume that mnhq don't know for certain she is a troll. If they did they would delete the thread.

Maryz

We can also be sure that the troll hunters don't know for sure that she is a troll, and, that being the case, should think about the effect such cynicism might have on a young poster in trouble.

JamieandtheMagicTorch · 25/03/2013 16:12

scepticism not cynicism
