Thats it really, been over 6 years and she still treats me coldly, on the other hand my DBIL girlfriend and her are the best of pals-even going on holiday just them two! Shes not particularly rude just abit offish.
Getting so sick of having to keep a smile while there when I dont even want to go, no matter what I do it is never good enough!

Shall I just give up?

Stop the smiling and treat her as she treats you. After 6 years of trying, you deserve a break. If she asks what's wrong, explain that it's her turn to be nice to you for a change.

Oh bless you, I do know how you feel, as I felt this way up until a few weeks ago. I don't know what changed but after a couple of years of me being terrified of her and her being slightly off-ish with me, or so I thought, I just sort of gave up trying to be polite and stopped watching everything I was saying and I think that's made things easier. Maybe your MIL is actually just feeling reserved rather than being off with you?

Some people click, some don't. It's not a fault thing.

If she can't be arsed fake smiling then neither should you.

Mollydoggerson · 24/03/2013 19:13

Avoid her, when the rest of the family are visiting take the opportunity for some you time.

ImTooHecsyForYourParty · 24/03/2013 19:18

You don't have to meet her expectations.

You just have to be as civil to her as she is to you when your paths cross and just enjoy your life with your husband and children.
