to get angry with people in family parking...

...who don't have young children with them!?

I spent ages driving around a car park today looking for a suitable spot to get my 4mo DS out of car seat and into the pram. I don't always park in family parking and don't really mind the inconvenience if they are full with families.

But one of the spaces was taken up with a 2 seater Ferrari that was obv far too small/low to have a child in a car seat.
Sure enough, I saw the lady who owns the car on my way back. She was alone. WHY did she feel the need to park in one of those spaces when she clearly didn't need the room!?

It's not even like I can assume she had dropped her DC off somewhere as there is no way a small child in a car seat or one that needed a pram would have fit in there!!!

How inconsiderate!

In fairness a Ferrari is a very wide car, especially to fit standard uk bays.

let alone the rsk of people asking her precious expensive car with their doors!

A Ferrari is extra wide and you can't slide into them through a partially open door.

Personally though, I park mine in the far corner of the car park away from the riff raff who might scratch it with their inferior vehicles, not to mention small children and mothers struggling to get their offspring in and out of their cars.

YANBU People will crowd to tell you YABU and that they have never had any problems/ p and c didn't use to exist etc etc but the fact remains that it does exist, that it makes dealing with a baby much easier if you can park there and that people who park there without small children ARE inconsiderate arses. Oh yes, you will also be told how someone is disabled (but doesn't have a badge) and so is in much greater need of these spaces than you and you shouldn't be so inconsiderate as to use them with your child.

Ok so maybe none of these messages will appear this time but it never ceases to amaze me how such a family friendly website can be so anti-family in this topic! (Rant over)

In my local Sainsbo's car park, many of the cars are driven by kids aged 12 and under.

Especially on a Saturday night...

I used to have a Porsche and a baby. The high boot was great for nappy changing and I got some great looks when breastfeeding in it (obviously when parked in baby slots) so anything is possible. Sadly it had to go when Dc2 arrived.

Not unreasonable at all. It's not unreasonable in the slightest to expect parking spaces to be used for their designated purpose.

I know that back in the day people managed without P&C parking spaces, but I think you might also be forgetting that we largely went without car seats too, so children were easier to get out around car doors.

My parents were considered super-cautious for having 4 and 5 point harnesses fitted to our back seats, we certainly didn't have the enormous monstrosities most kids sit in these days until they're 10 or so.

We didn't have disposable nappies, washing machines, teabags or cars at all in the past, but no-one has a go at people for wanting to use them now!

I too get annoyed, but try to think to myself that perhaps they've hurt themselves, perhaps they were only going to be 10 minutes (I think short-term parking spots are a good idea), and if all fails I just shrug and content myself that karma will get them eventually and I keeping calm and serene is its own reward.
