to paint dark red nail varnish over skanky peeling black nail varnish?

I thought we could do with a bit of light hearted tosh! I'm utterly serious about this severe first world problem!!! I've got an art exhibition to attend later tonight, and cba to go and buy nail varnish remover. Help me mumsnet

I've been known to bite/chip away nail varnish in the absence of NV remover :)

Won't a neighbour have any? Coz it will look shite painted over, bumpy and shitty.

Bumpy dark red is better than chipped black! No-one will notice bumpy but everyone will notice chipped.....

Won't the red soften the black layer, and then you can peel it off? I vaguely remember reading that on a thread somewhere

I think Suzy is right.Apply a layer,then immediately rub it off with cotton wool.It will take most of the bottom layer off too.

That does work, I did it the other day. I peeled off as much as I could, then put on a coat of polish and wiped it all off. A couple of nails needed to be done twice

Yep do that ^^ it works, I usually just buff the last of it off with an emery board though.

I used to use that method to remove nail varnish when I was about 8.

thanks everyone! I had an outfit crisis in the end so slathered more black on top. It got me through the night
