to find the BBC's "EDL Hour" in the mornings quite revolting and cynical?

The recent series of the egregious "Saints and Scroungers" was bad enough, but now they have replaced it with "Caught Red-Handed" in which vigilantism and amateur sleuthing are openly celebrated

and there was a series recently about a team of skinhead debt recovery agents around the same time

do they think that by encouraging the public to turn on itself and behave like a pack of wild dogs, they will draw attention away from the coalition's farcical attempt at government? And if so, does it work?

does anyone else find it offensive?

Haven't seen it, but it certainly sounds grim

badguider · 18/03/2013 12:16

I find "caught redhanded" less offensive than "saints and scroungers" which i thought was the most ridiculous piece of simplistic nonsense i've ever seen!!

I am not keen on "caught redhanded" though, or the baliffs programme, though I have to admit the baliffs was slightly interesting in that you got to see the range of cases that go to the small claims court (not that i believe for a moment it was representative of the balance of types of cases, funny how on the tv series all the people visited were 'baddies' getting their comeuppanceHmm)

EduCated · 18/03/2013 12:16

I prefer to call it Daily Fail TV. At least they make that Dom Whatsisface present it to flag up that it's going to be shite.

EduCated · 18/03/2013 12:17

Saints and Scroungers was horrific. I wish I'd written to Points of View about it.

Fakebook · 18/03/2013 12:18

Not enough to call it the EDL hour! Are they all against Islam on the programmes too? Confused

Greensleeves · 18/03/2013 12:19

Saints and Scroungers was appallingly racist, yes

I am only "watching" it because I am stuck at home with a knee injury. But I am shocked at how far the BBC has sunk (I shouldn't be really, should I?)

The BBC is the Daily Mail of television. I am often annoyed by its reporting. The recent case where they took a CPS report about how false accusations of rape are really rare and made it into a story about how terrible it is to be falsely accused of rape (and bugger how terrible it is to be actually raped ) just sums up the whole editorial policy of the BBC, to me.

Latara · 18/03/2013 12:26

I resent my licence fee being spent on such shite!

Latara · 18/03/2013 12:29

I did actually believe for a few minutes that there is a programme called 'EDL Hour'... Blush

Greensleeves · 18/03/2013 12:44

hahaha perhaps that will be next!

licence fee is now a fucking joke IMO.

SPBInDisguise · 18/03/2013 12:47

Sorry what is edl?

Latara · 18/03/2013 12:53

'The EDL are the English Defence League (IMO a bunch of ignorant, nasty & racist thugs).

Greensleeves · 18/03/2013 12:59

EDL are like the skinhead thug arm of the BNP - meat puppets

extreme Daily Mail readers

It makes Loose Women look positively highbrow.

Greensleeves · 18/03/2013 19:24

Loose Women is awful too

WHY exactly are they still getting the licence fee?!?

They haven't exactly covered themselves in glory recently.

I happened upon that Saints & Scroungers a few weeks ago & meant to post about it.

I am truly disgusted that we are funding that sort of utter crap, offensive on so many levels.

Agree with all that has been said but personally would pay the license fee for Sherlock and Dr Who alone

PhallicGiraffe · 18/03/2013 21:23

Anyone that watches day time TV, quick frankly, needs a life.

HollyBerryBush · 18/03/2013 21:23

I really doubt the government has commissioned it just to piss you off, OP, it's just an extension of the JK world.

EduCated · 18/03/2013 22:17

Ivor No I don't think criminals should get away with 'it', but neither do I want to live in a society which celebrates vigilantism. And it is offensive. A lot of racist and benefit bashing undertones.

Greensleeves · 19/03/2013 12:31

Interesting that the first person on this thread who thinks these shows are a good thing is also the first person on this thread to be personally insulting to another poster.

Well, not THAT interesting.
