to HATE Squiglet with every fibre of my being? (petty)

DD (4) is very into what letters start words (she isn't in school yet) so I thought "great!" when Cbeebies started the Squigle the Alphabet programme!

How wrong was I?

Do Cbeebies seriously think that preschoolers can work out that Fox ends with 'X', rather than begins with it? DD likes to randomly state things like "Bus begins with 'B'" throughout the day, and we've had quite a few conversations like this:

DD: Fox begins with X
Me: No DD, fox begins with F and ends with X
DD: What's 'ends with'?
Me: (insert long winded explaination about letter sounds, words, looking at all the letters in the word, gets DD to say 'Fox' slowly and listen for the F and X sounds etc etc etc)
DD: (pause) Fox begins with X

repeat several hundred times

If DD fails her English Language GCSE in the distant future I will hold Squiglet personally responsible.

And while we're at it - they are not 'Squiggle sticks', they are crayons. Even DD knows that!

and breathe!

Tree Fu Tom has a nerdy voice.

WorriedMummy73 · 18/03/2013 21:44

I love Max and Ruby! They remind me of my two eldest kids when they were younger - that doesn't say a lot for my dc does it? I also like Cloudbabies.

Molehillmountain · 18/03/2013 21:51

I know it's been said but I'll feel so much better for saying "they're f***g crayons!!!!" And possibly poking squiglet's eye out with one.

Chigley1 · 18/03/2013 21:57

I actively dislike Max and Ruby.

But more than that I LOATHE The Jimmer Jammers (a bedtime song on Nick Jr)

It actually makes me feel quite violent, in a shoe throwing sort of way.

My children rush to turn the sound off and put their hands over my eyes when it comes on Grin

redwellybluewelly · 18/03/2013 22:02

We only have Internet tv rather than live tv (£ saving exercise) and dd only likes pocoyo and more recently baby jake.

I'm fairly happy now having read this thread!

Although I loathe waybaloo, ITNG, cloudbabies, pissy boring and dd lasted about a minute before she switched them off. Pocoyo available in 30min episodes on YouTube.

I pocoyo

WorriedMummy73 · 18/03/2013 22:02

Sings: 'ooooh, you jimmer jammers, ooooooh, you jimmer ja-ammers'. Gets on my nerves too. There used to be a great bedtime song on Nick Jnr, something about pyjamas, a bloke singing over an acoustic guitar. Don't know why they got rid of that and got in that possessed-looking girl - look at her eyes when she first comes up the stairs!!!

WorriedMummy73 · 18/03/2013 22:04

And Pocoyo is brilliant - if only for Stephen Fry's narrative. As fantastic as the inspired combination of Jane Horrocks and Julian Clary on Little Princess.

Chigley1 · 18/03/2013 22:08

Urgh, even the JJ words make me break out in a cold sweat. I actually went all cold and prickly across my head when I read your post, WorriedM!

My DD loves Bubble Guppies, Team Umizoomi, SuperWhy. I can cope with those

WorriedMummy73 · 18/03/2013 22:11

Are they still showing SuperWhy? That's been on for years now! I really like Bubble Guppies, but only for the fish and his little 'get up everybody outside' bit. My Mum was very amused to see me getting into that recently.

Is the jimmer jammer song still going? They started using that when DS1 was small. He's 10 this year. I tend to stick to cbeebies these days so I haven't seen nickjr bedtime in a while.

Tweasels · 19/03/2013 09:14

Argh, grandpa in my pocket is dreadful. I feel fury rise in me whenever it's on.

Mind, DD has only just realised there is more than one children's channel and now asks for Disney on and I'll take anything on Cbeebies over the Micky Mouse drivel.

FeckOffCup · 19/03/2013 09:22

I thought Me Too was set in Glasgow not Newcastle?

We like Wooly and Tig in this house but mostly because we can recognise a lot of places we have been.

Can't abide Abney and Teal, boring drivel and Teal's voice gets on my tits.

lakeofshiningwaters · 19/03/2013 09:31

We loooove Abney and Teal, Octonauts and Show me Show me in this house. Both dc also love Get Well Soon, which DD (2) calls Happy Soup. Sounds like something that would make you better Smile
.

lakeofshiningwaters · 19/03/2013 09:33

Oh, but while we're on rage-y programmes, anyone else loathe City of friends and Angelina Ballerina. God that mouse needs a trap - such a spoilt brat. And how long before someone tells her she hasn't quite got the physique of a ballerina??

DaysieGoneBananas · 19/03/2013 09:39

I HATE Peppa Pig...and its on all the sodding time! DD2 is obsessed with it. , it creeps me out that their eyes are on the same side of their head! All 3DCs love anything superheroish (Young justice, green lantern, batman et al ) but all TV must come second to anything with Saint Justin in it. It got so bad that I started to get a thing for him cos I saw his face more tgan my DHs at one point!

Kirk1 · 19/03/2013 09:52

Daysie, that's worrying! Justin's seems like one of those blokes who every woman is "just friends" with.

I loathe Max and Ruby. It always worried me that they don't appear to have an adult in the house. It's not like Charlie and Lola where you just never see the adults, you know they're there because they are referred to.

DH once suggested that maybe mum and dad bunny had an "accident" like Peter Rabbit's father. I also find Ruby's voice terribly grating. I like Max though, he's cute.

As for Angelina ballerina, if ever there was a child that needed a slap.... She's so selfish and she's a total diva. I'm very glad that dancing never interested DD!

RougePygmy · 19/03/2013 10:03

No no, there is something sin sinister about Max, the way he can just stand there, staring at Ruby...with those cold dead eyes, and you just know Ruby's days are numbered!

Love Bubble Guppies in this house....that fish has such a manly voice!

Octonauts is a fave here too.

They also love the Alpha blocks. We watch tv through the laptop, so they are always on the cbeebies website playing the little alpha blocks games and watching the cartoons. The octonauts game is quite good also......they seem to know the names of a lot of marine life now!

DaysieGoneBananas · 19/03/2013 10:03

I know...fortunately I am now cured of my Jusin fad! Angelina Ballerina needs to meet my cat. Annoying little rodent!

RougePygmy · 19/03/2013 10:03

"sin sinister" not sure what happened there....maybe it is a sign of just how sinister he is, gave me a typing stutter!

Eskino · 19/03/2013 10:09

Lets play is the most moronic show on TV. Far from encouraging imaginative play it positively stunts it, because the kids are just staring aghast at these "gown ups" behaving like imbeciles, its passive and its bloody awful.

Dr Ranj is a squeaky voiced doppelgänger for Prince but with zero sex appeal.

Mr Tumble I am learning to tolerate, only because ds has started shimmying his hands around in a makaton style and I find it quite cute.

Why can't children have real adults with adult voices who behave like adults as their show presenters though?

ChairmanWow · 19/03/2013 10:09

Love, love, love Abney and Teal. Also Octonauts, though DS doesn't quite get it yet. I'm trying to force him.

God I could quite happily shoot the Waybuloos. All that crystal-loving hippy bollocks. They're so whiny as well. I also find them a bit passive-aggressive, and do the girl ones really have to be so pathetic? Plus the way they dub the 'cheevies' badly with posh voices. I mean, god forbid that any of them should have an accent. Aaaaarrrgh! Angry

YY to Tree Fu Tom's nerdy voice. David Tennant is demeaning himself with his involvement with that programme.

As for Squiglet, it slightly gives me the creeps. And you're right OP, they are fucking crayons and it's fucking paper.

Kirk1 · 19/03/2013 10:28

Yy, crayons, paper and it's fucking DRAWING not squiggling. DS1 commented the other day that Squiglet's drawings are crap.

I like tree fu Tom, David Tennant is great at the manic Twigs, and Sophie Aldred (Tom's voice) was my favourite Dr Who companion. I have a new appreciation for the weird spell moves since I found out they're based on physical therapy moves for dyspraxia. Also I think the live action Tom is cute.

iProcrastinate · 20/03/2013 17:33

I can't get my head around Me Too - I swear I saw one of the characters going to work via Manchester! It did provide a bit of comic relief as DD was in hysterics because she thought that the coloured puffs of cloud that appear over the map between scenes were 'multi-coloured farts'...........

OP posts:
lolathemagnificent · 20/03/2013 19:06

YANBU, I also cannot stand tree fu tom

Dr.Ranj however...wow. He is one handsome mothertrucker! yum yum and yum! Definitely find myself being more interested watching get well soon than DS. Mmmmmm....

You're right tubegirl, whatever happened to lazytown? Another hottie to ogle Grin
