"Bubbly"
" feisty"
"a bit sweary'
" a foody"?

FOr these are the terms that, come the revolution will SURELY result in summary execution.

I call DD feisty all the time; it's true. She likes that label. Sheesh, something else MNers can get offended by.

Little Boys don't get called feisty because they get called obnoxious instead.

Sexist

Little boys don't get called feisty? Nonsense. Feisty and obnoxious have very, very different meanings you know.

tabulahrasa · 17/03/2013 17:34

'Bubbly is fat woman at slimming club giggling at everything'

Yep, that's me - look some of us have to actually be those people you know, or they wouldn't exist...

I didn't say it was a good thing, or that I wander up to people introducing myself as bubbly, but if made to it is probably a word I would use to describe myself.

CombineBananaFister · 17/03/2013 17:49

I get described as anal quite often by family, if they're feeling nice it's sometimes 'organised' or 'particular' but always 'kind and thoughtful'.
By my Ils I get 'weirdo' or 'geeky' just because I went to university and read actual books not magazines Hmm
It's usually when they are describing some person off Geordie Shore/towie and I'm a weirdo for not knowing them. I should add I am NOT as 'snotty' Grin as this post sounds, they genuinely do pity me for knowing these things

I hate that Stubborn and Sarcastic are viewed as negative...these are my two favourite qualities about myself.

I see it as:
Stubborn - Strong willed, doesn't back down or walked all over.

Sarcastic - witty and entertaining.

Thank fuck I dont ever have to describe myself then.

lovetomoan · 17/03/2013 18:13

Error I used to decribe myself as nerdy still do sometimes but I did a degree in Library and Information Science and I studied a short course in Legal English just out of interest and I am currently doing a degree in Arts and Humanities. Do I pass as nerdy or geeky to you?
I also wear glasses Grin

Sallystyle · 17/03/2013 18:23

I am far too sweary.

Whathaveiforgottentoday · 17/03/2013 18:38

I wouldn't use any of these but I do describe dh as a foodie when his food obsessions are getting on my nerves. I don't mean it as a compliment.

ErrorError · 17/03/2013 18:48

lovetomoan absolutely you can qualify as genuine nerd/geek! You have facts to back this up. It just makes me cringe a bit when people describe themselves this way when they are clearly not. e.g. saying they're a star wars geek and then it turns out they've watched them but can't recall any of the dialogue/scenes. True geekdom requires a lot of research and dedication! (note: I'm not a Star Wars geek, just an example.)

I see loads of girls wearing t-shirts like this and I think, "really!? Are you? Are you genuine, being ironic, or just following trend." Sorry, gone on a massive ranty tangent here

lovetomoan · 18/03/2013 16:36

Error I suppose it's fashionable now. A bit like when people wear crosses without being Christian, just a fashion statement. And thank you for giving me my label back Smile

I used to have a colleague who described herself as 'creative'. The only 'creative' thing I've ever seen her doing was changing her screensaver to different shades of lilac/purple. Actually, that wasn't even creative because she took the pictures from the internet. Same colleague said her boyfriend describes himself as an 'alpha male'. I really wanted to laugh but kept quiet.

'Alpha males' do not describe themselves as alpha males I think. And alpha male makes me think of an animal peeing somewhere to mark its territory. Not attractive. Grin

And in a previous job a female colleague was described as 'feisty' by a male colleague. He said 'she is the opposite of what you expect on a muslim girl'. They were both muslim and she swore a lot, I suppose since she wore a hijab, most people didn't expect her to swear 'like a sailor' Grin. She is a nice person who tends to use the f word a lot, that's all.
