to have moved her trolley and called her ignorant

nipped up to aldi on lunch break to do some food shopping. as expected place is busy, its friday and a bank holiday weekend. the only space i saw available was half blocked by a woman loading her back seat with the contents of her trolley one by one. i drove up and sat there for a min thinking she would move. she didnt. she glanced over her shoulder stared at me and continued on. i rolled down passenger window and asked her politely, "sorry can you please move your trolley". she told me to fuck off. i then pulled handbrake got out, got her trolley by the bar handle and pulled it behind her car while she was shouting this that and the other. i said nothing. hopped back in and parked properly. as i was going into the shop she was still shouting at me. was half afraid she may damage my car while i was in the shop she sounded that mental! i ignored her but am stull fuming sitting her back at my desk. wibu? should i not have touched the trolley? i didnt handle her bought goods or her ... simply moved the trolley to her boot. grrrrrr! wagon.

Yes. Because that is not the meaning of the word ignorant. Other than that, no.

Sugarice · 15/03/2013 13:39

Well done you for keeping your composure and ignoring her.

She was a loon, thank god she didn't key your car though!

Tubegirl · 15/03/2013 13:41

Yanbu. How rude of her!

fluckered · 15/03/2013 13:42

was shaking like a leaf as hate confrontation but she made me so mad. surprised myself. thankfully she didnt hear me call her ignorant and i probably whispered it anwyays. yeah i didnt pick up half of what i needed so paranoid over my car incase she would damage it. thanks i feel a bit better after a mug of tay!!

SashaSashays · 15/03/2013 13:44

Not unreasonable to move her trolley I would have pushed it in the opposite direction tell her to also fuck off but the more you surely meant to use is selfish?

Ignorant means something else.

Kendodd · 15/03/2013 13:44

Is it a bank holiday weekend?

SirChenjin · 15/03/2013 13:44

Good for you!! You were lucky she was only the "fuck off" type loon rather than the punchy type though.

EuroShaggleton · 15/03/2013 13:44

I'm very surprised that trolley didn't end up smashed into your car.

NotMostPeople · 15/03/2013 13:46

My pet hate, the wrong use of the word ignorant. It does not mean to ignore.

fluckered · 15/03/2013 13:46

ah must be an irish thing ... everyone can be as "ignorant as fuck" here even though it technically doesnt apply. yeah its paddys weekend. thoughts of battling another shop after work with ds in tow is putting me into a sweat. at least can lock myself indoors at the weekend with bulging presses/fridge. thanks for the replies.

ceebie · 15/03/2013 13:46

Calm down and learn a bit of patience. Yes she was being slow and rude. That doesn't make it reasonable for you to be confrontational and rude.

fluckered · 15/03/2013 13:47

ah here i didnt use the word ignorant to mean she ignored me.

OP posts:
LadyPessaryPam · 15/03/2013 13:48

ceebie, she was on her lunch break, so not all the time in the world.

DublinMammy · 15/03/2013 13:48

You were quite right to move it, she sounds like a twat, well done for staying calm....,

It's Paddy's Day on Sunday so a bank hol here in Ireland, hurrah!

fluckered · 15/03/2013 13:49

i was patient i waited for a few minutes she ignored me and also when i asked her politely to move her trolley. i didnt zoom up to car space and sit on the horn i did give her a chance. but i couldnt sit there blocking up anyone else trying to reverse out of spaces while she packed her shopping one by one in the back side.

OP posts:
fluckered · 15/03/2013 13:50

i was on lunch break but dont expect anyone to make allowances for that. it was her manner and selfish nature that pissed me right off and the "fuck off" was the icing on the cake.

OP posts:
DublinMammy · 15/03/2013 13:53

She was ignorant in the sense that she was ignorant of the fact that she should have moved her trolley. The op has not used the word incorrectly.

lottieandmia · 15/03/2013 13:54

It's not confrontational for the OP to ask said person to move her trolley, ceebie - she had no right to take up a car parking space with a trolley. Cannot believe she told you to f off - what a piece of work.

I think the word ignorant is applicable here - it describes someone who behaves without any regard for the needs of others around them. Selfish, yes but ignorant also - ignorant of normal social behaviour.

HawthornLantern · 15/03/2013 13:56

Well she was apparently ignorant of basic good manners, courtesy to others and general awareness of the world around her, so I don't have so much of problem with you classifying her as ignorant Smile and I also think it is perfectly reasonable to move a trolley that is in your way. But I might not have been as brave as you because someone as unreasonable as she was being might have retaliated.

fluckered · 15/03/2013 14:00

thanks guys had me doubting my use of thw word ignorant. yeah i cant believe i did it myself tbh as the retaliation is what would have made me think twice if i wasnt so mad.

YOU SHOULD HAVE NUTTED HER THE SLAG THEN PUSHED HER INTO HER OWN TROLLEY AND ROLLED IT DOWN A HILL

MrsMushroom · 15/03/2013 14:05

What a nutter. Forget it op. Maybe she'd had some bad news? I always try to explain away awful behaviour in that way.

I once had a well dressed man roar at me in the street for brushing his shoulder...he swore and ranted. He was a posh fella in a lovely suit.

I was SO upset...the only thing I could think of was that he'd just had rotten news or something.

Plumpcious · 15/03/2013 14:05

Playing devil's advocate here: what if there was a medical reason why she found it easier to unload item by item straight onto the back seat? Perhaps she has a bad back or muscular problem and can't lift a bag of shopping? Presumably the trolley was next to the car door so she could unload it easily onto the seat. By moving the trolley around the back of the car she would have to walk to and fro repeatedly. OK, so she shouldn't have told you to fuck off, but it is possible she had a legitimate reason for unpacking the trolley that way.
