I live in cheltenham and today went to the races with some friends as usual. Had a lovely day went for a meal and a few drinks then went to get a bus.
There was a ten minute wait and so I popped into the chippy to get some chips for me dh.
Group of men in there totally managed to scare and intimidate me.
Would you like a savaloy up your back door you slut etc etc. I was alone I am a 45 yr old mother of five wtf?
I have seriously led a very unsheltered life and although wasn't shocked I am angry to my very core. How feckkng date they?
I gave them a mouthful back but I'm just so angry now.
I'm on the bus and feel like crying.
Why do we have to put up with this bolocks?
I just needed to rant.

cunts

you should have filmed them

Ledkr · 15/03/2013 11:21

I so wish I had now. We are going again in a bit but dh coming this time so should have a relatively hassle free evening.
Shame you can't do that without a 6ft bloke in toe though.

Good on you writing to your MP - that's a great idea. I think it's a fucking scandal that they have a temp licence for strippers in normal pubs for this week. Do you know if it is just festival week ledkr or every race meet in Cheltenham?

It's a bloody disgrace anyway.

Who is the MP for Cheltenham I wonder. I am going to have a look.

Not that it will do FUCK ALL.

SonOfAradia · 15/03/2013 16:16

That is fucking disgusting.

I'm a man, but I absolutely HATE men like this. It sometimes seems to me that society is going backwards in terms of feminism and attitudes towards women.

coughingbean · 15/03/2013 17:06

my sympathies OP, I have had the misfortune of having to share a train with 100s of beered up football fans when on the way home from visiting my ill nan at the other end of the country

they make you feel so intimidated - there is no need for such sexual "banter", its so immature and bullying, just vile - and these scum should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

well done for standing up to them

Lovelygoldboots · 15/03/2013 17:53

I have worked at many racecourses for the tote and big race meetings bring the drunken arseholes out for the day. I live near uttoxeter and the midland grand national will bring similar carnage. Sorry for what happened op.

DollyTwat · 15/03/2013 17:57

That's awful ledkr hope you're ok now
Were they local men?

I hate how during race week people think they can forget how to act, pudding in the gardens and staggering drunk in the road

Big hugs xx

DollyTwat · 15/03/2013 17:58

*pissing not pudding ffs
Autocorrect making a FOOL of me again!

GetOrf · 15/03/2013 18:01

Pudding in a garden sounds GREAT

GetOrf · 15/03/2013 18:02

Seriously what they said to you sounds really malevolent.

And if you were intimidated as a self assured woman can you imagine how a young shy girl would feel. Bastards.

BegoniaBampot · 15/03/2013 18:05

Shitebags, this sort of thi g. Ames me sooooo angry. Would love to see how they wood act if their behaviour was filmed and then shown to their wives, mothers, daughters and bosses. Fucking cowards! And I don't see why this kind of abuse is that different to racial abuse TBH, except that it is more acceptable and the recipient is expected to have a sense of hu our about it. Do these men think they are amusing and cute, or do they realise how vile and intimidating they can be. Sorry, rant over!

TheSmallPrint · 15/03/2013 18:06

You should have picked up the vinegar and squirted the wankers in the eyes. Angry

I agree with taking their pictures or videoing them. If that happens to me I hope I have the presence of mind to do that - probably wouldn't though as I suspect I would have just reacted as you did.

Varya · 15/03/2013 18:14

These ghastly lowlifes are the same psychopaths who enjoy cruelty children, women and animals. A pox on them and all like them.

StuntGirl · 15/03/2013 18:15

Strippers??! I thought Cheltenham was a naice place and that the races were a bit posh - would not expect that kind of drunken, boorish behaviour, or strippers!

GetOrf · 15/03/2013 18:23

That's what I thought stunt before I moved there.

It's a really nice place for 51 weeks of the year.

StuntGirl · 15/03/2013 18:27

I am Shock

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 15/03/2013 18:39

Horrible, poor you, the way the bastards can make someone feel so vulnerable. Wishing nastiness on them from a great height (I wonder what would happen from a concerted mumsnet ill wishing!)

Ledkr · 15/03/2013 21:44

Hi all and thanks.
Had a lovely day with dh and had a good win too.
I always used to stick up for the races saying Ive never had any trouble etc as dolly and getorf know.
It's tainted for me now though after about thirty years.
These men weren't joking they were being deliberately menacing and threatening. It's probably best that I didn't whip out my phone as I have no doubt they'd have hurt me it damaged it.
Might stick to civilised mumsnet meet ups now Grin

Twaty, wanky shit stains on the gusset of humanity, those men are. You should have popped them in the deep fat fryer and did us all a favour.

I hope you are ok. Reading your OP made me feel sick Sad

divegirl77 · 15/03/2013 21:56

Thank god it is over for another year.

I've only lived here for 5 years but the strippers/lap dancing clubs seem to have increased exponentially in that time. Thankfully the other meets don't attract this kind of grief and are far more pleasant with just a slight increase in traffic levels. There is a good reason I've taken annual leave and gone away the last couple of years. I think I need to get booking again for next year.

MP is Martin Horwood

LtEveDallas · 15/03/2013 21:57

Way back in the mists of time when I was a teenager it was quite usual for older teens from Glos to work glass collecting and waitressing at Chelt. I did it the first time, not a problem and signed up for the next year before I'd even finished. I made a fortune in tips and had a brilliant time. I was 14.

The next year was awful. Half way through day 3 I phoned my dad and asked him to come and collect me - because I was too scared to get the train home Sad. My friends and I had been abused on the way up and back the previous days, I'd had a rotten time being letched at and abused by drunken wankers. I'd finally snapped when a drunken bastard stuck his hand up my skirt and into my knickers. I dropped a tray of red wine on the floor and the head barman just shouted at me "you ain't getting fucking paid now"

My dad and my brother came to get me. I'd waited in one of the stewards tents for them and all he had to say (and the private security guards were there too) was that I'd better come back the next day to return my uniform or I'd be done for theft. My brother was FURIOUS (and he's built like a brick shithouse). He took the uniform back - and I don't know what he did, but I got my full wages - even for the days I didn't work.

I never went back, I've never been to the races and I don't even take part in work sweepstakes. I just can't. These days the thought of it makes me fucking angry, but I remember how scared I was back then.

One of my friends runs a catering company and works at Chelt for one of the 'high end' hospitality tents - she was there back then and now only employs male casuals for the week. She won't let the girls do it.

hermioneweasley · 15/03/2013 22:00

I would be really upset too. It's absolutely vile. Hope you're feeling better now.

Awks · 15/03/2013 22:00

That's shocking. How vile.
