Pole dancing parties for eight year olds - starting a bit young?

So, whilst trawling the internet for a suitable party venue for one of my children I was fairly surprised to see pole dancing parties listed under 'children's party venues in Manchester' on the local netmums page www.netmums.com/manchester/local/view/parties/venues/pole-dance-and-beauty-party

So, 'Caters for adults and children's parties from 8+' - pole dancing parties for eight year olds? Am I missing something??!! Or, am I being unreasonable in my assertions that this is a bit inappropriate and perhaps takes girl's make-over parties to a whole new level? Surprised to see it advertised as a children's party venue, even more surprised to it it on said website.

Over to you fellow mumsnetters...

seeker the women were like athletes too. I was addressing your comment about male pole dancers.

cherrycarpet · 12/03/2013 13:40

OMG... I've heard it all now. Horrible, tacky and however you try and pass it off as 'exercise' it still has all the seedy connotations of a sex-club. No way would I let my 9 year old DD's go to such a 'party'..... Yuck, Yuck...

Lueji · 12/03/2013 13:43

WTF!

That's all.

thezebrawearspurple · 12/03/2013 13:43

That's going too far, what next, how to perform the perfect bj parties for eight year olds? Chris Rock said it best about his role as a father 'my one job is to keep her off the pole', quite rightGrin

donnie · 12/03/2013 13:44

yes SirChenjin, that is correct. Have you not seen those new strip clubs with the rowing machines in them? and the crosstrainers? on and the treadmills too. Wink

monkeysbignuts · 12/03/2013 13:44

Grim!

Szeli · 12/03/2013 13:46

You know I've never come across a stripper who was good on a pole; the main task of their job was stripping... just a thought x

IslaValargeone · 12/03/2013 13:48

Donnie I'm sorry since when has pole fitness been illegal ?

Child porn has nothing to do with pole all I do is be honest with my daughter sorry you don't see this as a good thing I really don't see why you feel the need to ask such a rediculus question.

SirChenjin · 12/03/2013 13:50

I must have missed those Donnie - patently I don't spend nearly enough time in the gym!!

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/03/2013 13:50

Both our local leisure centres here have a pole studio.......and cross trainers, exercise bikes etc etc..........oh and treadmills :)

SirChenjin · 12/03/2013 13:52

And children's parties on the poles Betty?

smeeeheee · 12/03/2013 13:52

Can't believe people are actually prepared to defend this???!!!?? I don't like pole dancing disguised as fitness classes for adult women, but at least if it's adults doing it then they know what it involves and the connotations it has, but wee girls? Are people really suggesting that pole dancing is a useful skill for children to learn? It's just weird and icky. Would they defend a pimps and hoes (not the gardening implement) party for primary schoolers, or think it's empowering when their preteens start pretending to be streetwalkers? Weird, weird, weird.

Nicecuppachar · 12/03/2013 13:52

I just watched that you tube link.

I fond it overtly sexual. the woman had her hair loose and flowing - athletes tie it up. She was wearing sexy underwear type clothing with sequins. Hmm, not picturing Zola Budd in that. The moves were absolutely sexual, lots of spread legs to camera, hair flicking, stroking the pole etc.

It made me uncomfortable.

FrankSpenser · 12/03/2013 13:54

Fucking grim.

IslaValargeone · 12/03/2013 13:57

Fundamentally the pole is phallic isn't it?
How can anyone think encouraging a child to twist her way around a giant cock like construction is 'exercise'?

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/03/2013 13:57

Sir - I have no idea.....I have never asked. Like I said on one of my previous threads, I would rather pole accepted here first before we start doing kids parties in it.

Nicecupa do ballroom dancers wearing sequins make you uncomfortable then? I have to say though, in the classes I go to there is no hair flicking, stroking the poles etc etc. I have been to some god awful classes where they do that but I just wouldnt go back as thats not what I am interested in at all.

Nicecuppachar · 12/03/2013 13:59

Ballroom dancers do not present their barely covered snatch, legs stretched akimbo, lingeringly straight at the audience.

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/03/2013 14:00

I dunno, I have seen some pretty high slit dresses and legs akimbo draped over some blokes shoulder....the bloke by the way who has such tight trousers on we can see what he had for his lunch!

Nicecuppachar · 12/03/2013 14:01

You aren't really trying to compare the two now are you? Hmm Or are there Ballroom Dancing Clubs in every down where men go to jack off?

ubik · 12/03/2013 14:02

Isla - yep I think it's women dancing round a massive knob ..watched by other massive knobs

BettySwollocksandaCrustyRack · 12/03/2013 14:04

I reckon we would be surprised to know where men go to jack off!!

You lot who see the pole as a phallic symbol have dirty minds.......or a very unusual partner. Don't think I could handspring off DH's knob somehow.

SirChenjin · 12/03/2013 14:04

Do ask - I'm willing to bet money they don't.

Personally I would rather the pole isn't accepted, because that would require an acceptance of the sex industry and everything associated with it.

This is an interesting wee article

Joholliman · 12/03/2013 14:06

Can I suggest we remove all the fire mans poles from all playgrounds if a metal pole is a phallic symbol

IslaValargeone · 12/03/2013 14:10

You can suggest it but it would be rather daft.
I always thought metal poles in fire stations were in existance to make the transition from one floor to another quicker than descending a flight of stairs, thus saving valuable time in a life threatening situation.
Not really seeing all poles as being equal in this case I'm afraid Hmm
