aibu to expect a card and lunch out on my first mothers day even though it is not mothers day in the country where we live?

I'm British but live in my dp's home country. Mothers day here is celebrated at tge end of May.

I was hoping expecting dp would buy me a bunch of daffodils or make a card with ds's handprint or take me out to lunch. He knows it is mothers day in tge UK because he posted a soppy "you are an amazing mum to our precious baby" on my facebook wall I don't know why he couldn't just say that to me we have been together all day.

I suspect I am being unreasonable, I'm feeling especially home sick today and jealous of all tge lovely mothers day activities my UK friends and family are getting up to.

Couldn't you have just done something nice with your son if you wanted to celebrate today? Surely though if you live in a country where mothers day is in may then it would make sense to celebrate it in may when it is mothers day there?

we didnt go for lunch here today - would be far too busy everywhere. Got cards from the kids and a couple of pressies though. If mothers day isnt till May there then your celebration has yet to come.

Yes it does make sense to celebrate in May, I'm pretending to breastfeed ds whilst dp cleans, I hope he doesn't realise ds is asleep.

But when all of our Mothers days are done and dusted you'll still have yours to look forward too.

Weird, there are two threads about this. I only get one too, the one in Canada. I think it's mean. I got two my first year because I insisted.

YANBU to expect an acknowledgement to your 'roots' day Mother's Day... but going 'out for lunch' is THIS mother's idea of a living hell. I was begging to be locked in the kitchen to cook dinner... with wine of course. DH was worried because my friends would think him mean!

I also miss those 'pretending to breastfeed' moments ;)

I'm in the same situation

I think technically YABU but the first mother's day can be very emotional. Even worse if you're homesick.

Try to chalk it up to one of those expat experiences everyone has at some point, if you can. And talk to your DH, let him know how you're feeling. Even my normally lovely DH didn't get how important mother's day was to me until I spelled it out for him, as it's not a huge holiday where he comes from.

I have spoken to dp now and he thought it had to be big presents and posh flowers or nothing, I have explained to him it can just be what we usually do but with a little more effort. Hopefully he will be better in may!

Big hugs and as the mother of 5 year old twins, I would say enjoy the days when your little one is not able to answer back and be cheeky etc

YANBU in fact I would say you should get 2 mothers day. One today and one on the Mothers Day in the country you are in. At least it sounds like your DH is listening to you.

I think I should get 2 at least this first year, I grew our son and I am his only food source and I look after him 24 hours a day, I don't think 2 cheap bunches of flowers is too much to expect!

I think it annoyed me that he wrote on facebook how amazing he thinks I am so all of our friends and family will think aww Mr honeytea is so sweet, but he didn't actually do anything about it. He's cooking dinner now whilst I snuggle on tge sofa with breastfeeding sleeping ds :)

YABU - just celebrate one in the country you live in.

I would say YABU but you have a young baby and are obviously upset so I won't!
Similar situation here though and it would never cross my mind for us to celebrate on the wrong I.e UK day would just seem a bit odd since we don't live there. I'll be celebrating in May along with everyone else.
