To think that commenting audibly on my family is quite rude

This really. Waiting for DS1 to come out of school, me and another mum were first there. Another arrives, says to the other one loudly 'three boys eh?' and pulls a face, all the while I am standing right next to her. I don't mind people expressing their horror and disgust that I have three sons to my face Hmm - but surely it's a bit rude to talk about them while I'm actually there?

I mean 'to someone else' while I'm there...

It is annoying I have 2 girls and have had comments which equally irritate me YANBU

steben · 07/03/2013 19:59

Oh mine have just been to me or DH. So far!

mercibucket · 07/03/2013 19:59

Whats so wrong with having 3 boys, i know a mum at DD's school who has 3 girls.

thezebrawearspurple · 07/03/2013 20:07

She's an idiot, three boys sounds lovelySmile

GregBishopsBottomBitch · 07/03/2013 20:10

Some people will comment on anything they can.

Boomtastic · 07/03/2013 20:12

Seems a bit of a random comment to make - are you sure she was talking about you? Maybe she was saying something about the first 3 mums being there to pick up boys.

Dannilion · 07/03/2013 20:13

Why would anyone express horror and disgust at your family?

I grew up with 3 brothers and would LOVE 3 boys! Just not sure if I could handle that many more pregnancies.

Ignore them, there's nowt strange as folk.

wannabedomesticgoddess · 07/03/2013 20:17

I remember when a distant cousin had her third boy another relative saying "oh its a boy" like someone had just shat on her rug.

And then the pitying "another boy."

I have two girls and I would love love love a boy. But its very unlikely we will have another. And if we did try it would be for another child not just to have a boy.

YANBU. Some people are just rude!

wigglesrock · 07/03/2013 20:26

Are you sure she wasn't just trying in a very cack handed way to start a conversation? I've 3 girls, if I hear one more ?oh, that'll be hard on your husband Hmm when they're all teenagers" I might just scream or just shrug and not let it bother me Grin

SkinnybitchWannabe · 07/03/2013 20:39

Ive got 3 boys and it's great.
But, I do get alot of comments about how noisy my house must be and that I have my hands full dealing with them..oh and I just MUST try again for a girl.
Youngest ds is nearly 8 so I've got used to the comments and brush them off now.
The only comment that stuck in my mind was a customer old bat said how sad I must feel because Im missing out on the mother/daughter shopping trips. Don't men like shopping?!

rainbow2000 · 07/03/2013 21:00

Ive 5 boys so you can imagine all the comments i get.I wouldnt worry about it she is very jealous probably.

Bessie123 · 07/03/2013 21:03

Your op sounds a bit odd to me. Why did you assume the woman was talking about you?

MrsMymble · 07/03/2013 21:09

mercibucket she was looking at my kids, and there was no one else about she could have been talking about. She and the other mother each have one girl. I'm used to people talking to me/asking me about having three boys and for the most part I don't mind. It's the talking about them as if we weren't standing there that bothered me. I was joking with the 'horror and disgust' part Grin - just because some people do react that way!

I posted this in AIBU because occasionally I do get fed up with it anyway, and have to think for a minute whether I am just being a bit chippy. Don't think I was in this instance though.

Bessie123 because there were only three of us waiting, I have three little boys, the other two have a girl each, and the mum in question was looking straight at my children when she said it and pulled a face. I'm not sure why I WOULDN'T assume she was talking about me Hmm

I feel your pain! I have two amazing boys and my sister is due her first boy in May. My mum is so excited but people are sympathising that my sis isn't having a girl so she won't have any granddaughters! Wtaf!!

MrsMymble · 07/03/2013 21:24

shoofly isn't it sad that some people can't see beyond what is really the least interesting thing about a child? All children are a blessing. FGS why should anyone sympathise with your mum for not having a granddaughter?! My mum adores her grandsons, she doesn't care either.

OP posts:
Bessie123 · 07/03/2013 21:25

Maybe, IF she was talking about your kids she was saying wow, 3 boys must be a bit full-on. But it would be super weird if she just showed up and slagged you right off.

mercibucket · 07/03/2013 22:37

I am a bit confused tbh. Were you stood there with your 3 boys or just 2 of them? Does she know you have 3 already? In which case I'm not sure why it is suddenly worth commenting on, unless one is a newborn or something? But she was talking to the other parent not you? Weird.

Oopla · 07/03/2013 23:21

I'd say she was trying to start a convo too. Badly.
