Not to expect FIL to want to discuss teenagers and their sex lives with me!

Earlier on this week, there was a big article in the Times2 section on teenagers wanting to have sex at home - what parents thought, how they reacted etc. I did read it - having three teenage boys it is something that will probably come up at some point.

My FIL is a lovely man, but he can bore for Britain at international levels he is not the best conversationalist in the world - he rings us up and discourses on bell ringing, gardening, his arthritis and the benefits of drinking cider vinegar, and other such topics. He is most definitely not in touch with the modern world - so imagine my gobsmacked surprise when he rang up this morning to discuss teenagers having sex under their parents' roofs - that was totally out of left field, and I hung up looking like this - .

Wonder what he got up to when he was a teenager then

You know he probably thought he was providing you with useful relevant information.

Maybe he read it and thought, aha DIL has 3 teenage boys, she needs/would like to know this.

My gran does the same, "you know how you have dogs, dogs can detect cancer, if they give you signals you should pay attention" "Thanks gran that's really cheerful, but usually they just get under my feet", "you have cancer of the foot".

I would curl up and die if my FiL wanted to bore me about anything other than his health, his headmastership or the weather.

Jeez, having read this I'm glad my FIL is of the generation that didn't have sex. Okay, he may be roughly the same chronologial age as your FIL, but he's still as few generations older

I remember a couple of years after dh and I got married, my (rather straight laced) mil told me how her and fil had been married 13 years before they had BIL and that they "tried everything, at it all the time, but nothing happened until we started a french class and BAM! I was pregnant". The look of horror on my face at her overshare has mercifully prevented any further information being imparted.

My own, or rather DH's cringe story is his mother, discussing my first pregnancy and the gender of the baby said 'Of course it all depends on who is on top during the sex act. At least that was the case with your sister'. Poor DH nearly died, but not as much as his poor sis who he gleefully shared the story with. She definitely needs the brain bleach!

I suppose the only thing is that your DILs will be feeling exactly the same about you one day!

My FIL aged 85 was discussing his research paper about why men and women have different shapes of pubic hair. I wasn't particularly embarrassed but I think DD was a little although we are used to him by now.

There is an article in today's Times about how children are seeing hard core porn on the internet. I am just hoping that DFIL doesn't feel the need to discuss that one with me!!
