to be considering donating blood in a couple of weeks?

Last time I donated blood was 15th March 2012. I deliberately timed having a tattoo done afterwards, and had it done on the 17th. The idea was that I'd miss minimal donation drives after that.
I've had a letter today, that says next one in my town is on March 14th. This is a few days before my '12 month' cut off period that they ask you to leave after having a tattoo.

AIBU to be considering going along and claiming it's been more than 12 months, or would that be really fucking stupid and dangerous?

If it's only a matter of days, I'd go along and say I'd had it done about 12 months ago.

Hi i dont think a few days would matter its so important to donate blood and can i say as a women and a mum who almost bleed to death after very difficult birth with DS that with out people like you neither of us would be here so thank you so very much

overmydeadbody · 04/03/2013 20:28

A few days won't make any difference, it has been twelve months.

CloudsAndTrees · 04/03/2013 20:29

Phone the number that's on the letter and tell them the truth. They can be quite strict about their rules so it's not worth a wasted journey, and it seems wrong to lie. They might tell you it's perfectly fine for you to donate.

StuntGirl · 04/03/2013 21:06

I would let them know and let them decide. If they say no then there will be donations happening a few days later at a nearby village or town that you could attend instead.

If your in England or Wales you can donate four months after having a tattoo. They just take an extra sample to test for hepatitis B core makers.

oldraver · 04/03/2013 21:15

I think its 4/6 months now..blood

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 04/03/2013 21:17

I'd ring and check. Hopefully what fadingblonde has said is right and you'll be able to give.

I went a couple of months ago when I had possibly fractured a small bone in my thumb and wasn't allowed to donate because of that! I was amazed - they were apparantly very low in stock and wouldn't take mine because I had a bruised thumb!

kinkyfuckery · 04/03/2013 21:18

I am not in England or Wales, it's still 12 months here.

Think I will give them a phone and just be honest. Just hate the thought of having to miss another session for the sake of a few days Sad
