It's all very lovely but it is such shocking timing when you've been awake for too many hours and hoping to be in bed by 8.

If you catch a dear little squidgy pink baby at 7.20. Then you have to wait for a placenta. Then cuddle. The write it all down coherently and legibly.

So if you could get it done an hour or so before 7 that would be super. Thanks.

DD2 was a 6.20 am home birth.

I'd seen the MW who delivered her in clinic the day before.

She spent most of the night at my place and went home to look after her DCs as it was 1/2 term.

I suspect she didn't get any unbroken for over 24 hrs.

This does make a lot of sense. When I was in labour with my first I rang the hospital when the contractions were about 5 mins apart. Midwife was very specific that I must not come to the hospital until after 7am. I said at the time it was probably the change over time and she wanted me to be dealt with by the day shift.

I arrived about 8cm dilated at about 7.30 mainly due to the face I had no one with me (and not the MW's comments)and by the time DP who was working a night shift about an hour away got the message (pre mobile phones) I'd had to get my parents (half an hour away to take me).

Ha, I probably ought to have some sort of award for considerate patients! DS born 11.30 a.m and we'd cleared off home by 6 pm.

DS1 was a Wednesday baby at 1636 (home by shift change at 7), DS2 was a Friday baby and was at 1508. I am most convenient except the Mw's and crash team missed the afternoon cuppa waiting on DS1- for which I was glad, the 'care' was awful.

DS2's midwife was amazing, we saw her in the morning when I was sent home as they couldn't induce, when I went into labour she happened to be there when DH came in, so she delivered him.

She was so upset that she couldn't let us go at 7 when she went and apoogised because she had to get home and she had a horrible journey back. Bless her.

mine was exactly midnight - poor MW didn't know what date to put, so she fudged it for 2 minutes past ( not happy about that - midnight is such a cool time)
but we'd all been up all night, and she'd been 1st MW then 2nd MW after shift change and she wanted to see it through.
She then came to the hospital with me because i needed stitching. and hung around while that was all done, too.

I managed 4.30am. I had chocolate which I thought I'd snaffle during labour but couldn't face. I remember thinking that my midwife must be tired and kept offering it to her despite her numerous rebuttals. I hope i didn't miss her off. Though she did do a wonderful job of my stitches. I still remember her fondly, i think i was so lucky to have such a caring, competent midwife.

DD was born at 8.48am and my midwife had been with me constantly from setting the induction drip off at about 6am - another midwife came in at around 8 but she stayed as she wanted to finish the job. It hadn't occurred to me before that she should have been home, tucked up in bed. She was just brilliant, DD was a bit prem and my first so I was naturally a bit anxious. Realising now that she was on her own time at the birth makes me appreciate her even more. Thank you Jacqui at WGH :)

With DS, I arrived at hospital at about 10.30am with an hour of contractions behind me and (unexpectedly) back-to-back DS was born at 12.14pm (turns out I don't like to hang around giving birth) - well in time for lunch, and we went home around 4.30pm, in time for everyone to have tea. All very civilised.

I lost track of shift changes, during the 36 hours I was trying to deliver ds1.

All I know is that I arrived to the ward at 8 am, and he was born 4 am nearly 2 days later. I was starving, and could not wait for breakfast as I had been nearly 40 hours without food. I curse the nurse/ health care assistant who insisted I shower before breakfast, and who left me on a chair in a hot shower, and disappeared. I just barely managed to reach the red cord before passing out. Dh had refused a transfusion after my heavy blood-loss due to CJD and what not risks. Could be she had to go home, left me in the shower and thought "oh, my shift has ended, hurrah! and skivvied off"

J arrived at 3pm precisely...with a daddy who does shifts (a&e doc) he clearly knew to avoid middle of the night/early morning!!

I was hugely inconsiderate with dd2. She was born at 5.55am and then at 7am I had a massive pph. Think a few doctors, midwives, student midwives and an anaesthetist went home a bit late that day.

4.33pm ok? Definitely home in time for dinner as I rather considerately needed to transfer in for some repair work and left them in peace!

Sorry, DD1 was born at 7.18am. The midwife was a controlling nasty cow a little stressed maybe that's why.

DS was born at home (first midwife put me off ever having another hospital birth). He was born sometime between 3.30 and 3.45pm. We don't know for sure because my dh and lovely midwife were too busy joking around to check the time.

I had DC1 at 7:31am then proceeded to have a PPH and was a bit poorly.
My midwife grumbled at me because she said I made her miss a hair appointment.

I'm not entirely convinced she was telling the truth, but I still felt bad. and slightly drained
