To ask DH to use a baby wipe more than once on DD bum?!

So last night, DH changed DD's pooey bum. He used one baby wipe, per wipe of DDs bum.
I am of the wipe, fold, wipe, dispose habit. He merrily chugged through nearly a quarter of a pack of wipes in one nappy change. Expensive & not very green.

When I asked if he could use a wipe more than once, he looked aghast, told me I was a dirty cat and that he wouldn't do it 'because he might get poo on his hands'. AIBU? Or is he being OCD or a PITA?!

With a poo then I would only do one or two wipes per wipe.

Dannilion · 01/03/2013 16:02

I would much rather use more wipes and not get poo on my hands. Everybody's different, I don't think either of you are being unreasonable.

www.cheekywipes.com/
Get some of these! Apparently 1 cheeky wipe does the same job as 7 disposable baby wipes.

sneezingwakesthebaby · 01/03/2013 16:04

Another who'd rather use more wipes for a poo. I don't mind the idea of poo on my hands but don't really like the idea of wiping it back all over dd's bits! My mums more like your style though and she tells me off. She is the queen of the 30 second nappy change haha.

BambieO · 01/03/2013 16:05

It depends, I am the same as you whereas DH is more clumsy so gets through more wipes for fear of poo hands Grin

honeytea · 01/03/2013 16:49

How old is dd? Runny newborn poo I'd say yabu, I sometimes feel like doubling them up!

ThreeWheelsGood · 01/03/2013 17:08

I'd argue the opposite honeytea - newborn poo isn't as stinky as older baby's poo so I'd use the wipe/fold method without worrying about getting any on my hands, but more "real" poo I'd do as much as possible to avoid it! Either way yanbu OP.

Bringmewineandcake · 01/03/2013 17:21

Fold, fold, fold again

CelticPromise · 01/03/2013 17:25

Another vote for a flannel! Wipes are useless for cleaning poo.

CelticPromise · 01/03/2013 17:25

And yes, I fold the flannel Smile

weegiemum · 01/03/2013 17:27

Yep. Couple of packets of IKEA flannels at £1 for 6, thrown in the nappy pail after use - bingo!

wellthatsdoneit · 01/03/2013 17:27

Fold, fold, fold. I like to challenge myself to see if I can deal with a pooey nappy with one wipe.

BabyRuSh · 01/03/2013 17:30

My dh folds and reuses the wipes. I think ts disgusting. Would rather use more wipes and I also only go in one direction so I'm always wipin towards his anus. An I also use an extra wipe at the end to be sure it's clean!

Beamur · 01/03/2013 17:30

If my DP was changing a pooey nappy I'd leave him to it regardless of how profligate his wipe use was. Those days are behind us now but he was a one wipe, new wipe wiper too.

IRCL · 01/03/2013 17:33

I'm a folder.

redskyatnight · 01/03/2013 17:34

Resusable wipes are the way to go.
Much cheaper.
Much greener
much harder to put your finger through

mynewpassion · 01/03/2013 17:46

Does it matter as long as baby is cleaned and you didn't have to do it?

starfishmummy · 01/03/2013 17:49

Dh will fold and reuse a wipe until it is the size of a postage stamp. Of course ds's bum never gets clean, so he does more folding and wiping......

lurkedtoolong · 01/03/2013 18:09

Dirty cat - teehee

elfycat · 01/03/2013 18:24

I'll use a folded wipe to do the outlying areas (tops of legs) for the first two or three go-overs before using a fresh one to finish the job off. Always a new wipe around the vulva area.

But sometimes when there's one of those poos I just use half a ton of wipes and get the job done. DM always uses a ton of wipes while saying sorry. I tell her not to worry, any time I'm not doing it is a bonus!
