Are UKIP just a 'respectable' face of the BNP?

The title says it really.

1 - are they more popular than Labour and Conservative?
2 - Lib Dems are still popular?!
3 - What are UKIP all about? The Daily Mail are crazy over them (including the people who comment on the paper)
4 - What is so bad about the EU? why is the Daily Mail so against it?

I hate politics but I am Labour through and through (hate all parties actually, but I can just about stomach labour)

  1. What would the country look like under UKIP leadership?

Arrgh so many questions. Thanks so much

OP posts:
LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 22:54

Why not? UKIP are xenophobic bigots, BNP are more extreme, explicitly racist bigots. Nothing in this thread has convinced me otherwise.

Pretending they're not what they are is pointless. Either you sign up as a bit racist and vote for them, or you don't - it's a simple choice.

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 22:55

I don't care, you will not read, you will not comprehend. There is no point in talking to you LRD, your mind is closed.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 22:58

Erm ... right then, that just shows how brilliantly the party are doing winning hearts and minds, doesn't it? Grin

It might be news to you, but actually, a political party has to get votes somewhere. If they can't conviced people that racism is good, they might struggle a wee bit.

And yes, sorry, my mind is most certainly closed to UKIP. I'm not racist and I am proud of Britain as it is, not as a pathetic fantasy for people who are ignorant of what xenophobia has done in the past.

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 22:58

What racism is this?

varicoseveined · 01/03/2013 23:01

But BangOn your average voter who may live in an area of high numbers of immigrants, and all the knock on effects would hardly be thinking of Antarctica when casting their vote.

The three main parties have failed to address immigration (legal and illegal) properly IMO and I'm not white English. I'm not fully convinced by UKIP but as someone posted, writing off people's real concerns regarding immigration as racism will get us nowhere except perhaps a rise in votes for the likes of the BNP.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 23:02

Oh dear. You do need to educate yourself. I shan't do it for you, you know!

Just don't vote for UKIP if you don't want to support xenophobia, and don't vote for the BNP if you don't want to support racism.

(As most sane people already know, thank god)

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 23:06

Would you prefer non racist UKIP or racist BNP? It seems to me you are making the situation worse LRD, Toad et al. Bearing in mind this is still a democracy, just.

AmberLeaf · 01/03/2013 23:08

Their education policy states

Abandon the policy of ?inclusion? and allow parents to chose special schools for children with learning disabilities

I think the operative word here is "allow", not "compel

No, by abandoning the policy of inclusion, children with SNs won't be allowed in mainstream schools.

So there is no choice other than maybe choose between one special needs school or another? maybe that is what they mean.

That looks quite clear to me that they don't want children with SNs in mainstream schools.

Yes they also say something about adults with SNs all living together in their own communities. all out of the way so normal people don't have to see them

OP no YANBU, UKIP is a party for people who are either stupid or racist but not openly, so just hide behind 'Im worried about immigration'

I wonder how many UKIP supporters know what their policies are?

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 23:10

What a ridiculous question. Would I prefer one racist minority party who will only ever be a laughing stock, or another xenophobic one?

Well, I prefer a normal and sane party with decent policies, like most voters!

What on earth did you expect the answer to be?!

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 23:10

Allow, means allow. Except if you are amberleaf who interprets as she sees fit.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 23:11

Please, do explain what 'this is still a democracy' has to do with your post, though?

My impression is that democracy triumphs - the disgusting policies of UKIP are rightly a laughing stock, precisely because few people vote for them. And that's saying something when we don't have main parties that are terribly inspirational.

AmberLeaf · 01/03/2013 23:11

ladypessary

I think it is crystal clear, im not 'interpreting' Im reading what it says

AmberLeaf · 01/03/2013 23:13

'Allow' people to do one thing, not a choice of two or three different things, but just one, special school or nothing, as inclusion will be abandoned.

So no choice at all.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 23:13

pam, amber is correct. You don't understand the word.

Your party would probably argue it's important that people be able to speak English correctly - what an irony you can't!

To clarify - amber is concerned (rightly) that children with SN or SEN might not be able to attend mainstream schools, or might be encouraged out of them. Does UKIP have a policy for helping such children fit into mainstream schooling that's been kept very, very, very quiet, or is it in fact the case these children will be given a raw deal?

Thank you LRD

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 23:15

I am perfectly capable of speaking and comprehending English. Please pose the question and I will get back to you.

YouTheCat · 01/03/2013 23:16

It is no choice. Let's go back to the 70s when all the SN children were nicely hidden from view shall we? Hmm

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 23:16

Any time, amber. It is incredible to me that anyone pretending to be a decent human being could accept these policies.

LRDtheFeministDragon · 01/03/2013 23:17

lady - you need to re-read, then. You answer us when you've had enough time for reading comprehension, ok? However long it takes, we're patient.

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 23:17

AmberLeaf 'Allow' people to do one thing, not a choice of two or three different things, but just one, special school or nothing, as inclusion will be abandoned.

How do you know this?

AmberLeaf · 01/03/2013 23:18

how do I know this?

Read the quoted UKIP policy, it is there in black and white.

LadyPessaryPam · 01/03/2013 23:18

Reread what exactly LRD, please paste so I can answer as I don't know what you are referring to.

AmberLeaf · 01/03/2013 23:19

LRD, that is the problem I think, people support UKIP based on their feelings about immigration and they pay no mind t any of their other dreadful policies.

AmberLeaf · 01/03/2013 23:20
