We filled a thread, so here's another!

Is there a reason for bras that seem fine when you try them on but get unbearably painful by the end of the day? I had a Calvin Klein that did this - seemed fine when tried it on, but as I wore it it got less and less comfortable, so that by 4pm I was desperate to "de-bra". It was cutting in under my arms sooooooo badly.

It reminded me of an episode of the "IT Crowd" where Jen's badly fitting bra caused her to mess up a meeting and she rips it off afterwards screaming "bad bra". Then later she says about a new bra "what if it goes bad? All Bras go bad."

Anyone else found a bra that "goes bad"???

PS I would like to nominate SC for an MBE for her services to women's breast comfort.

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/03/2013 12:26

Sometimes a bra that doesn't fit well isn't immediately obvious when you first try it on. It's only when you start moving around that suddenly...it starts to move.

Have a look at the info at the top of the thread about how to recognise a good bra and compare it. It may be the wrong size, or it may just not be a good bra for your shape.

MBE = Mistress of the Big-boob Empire?! :)

Yay AllIWant! Makes a massive difference doesn't it?

SorrelForbes · 01/03/2013 12:31

I love bra success stories!

delilahlilah · 01/03/2013 12:42

Ok.... For the doubting thomas's out there who are paranoid about 'giant' cups!
I had been in a DD or occasionally an E cup - I had trouble with gaping at the top of the e cup, so couldn't work out where to go from there. I heeded the advice on the thread, and couldn't believe I need to go up so many cups, but thought I would try out an h cup. I took delivery of 2 new bras this morning. Far more comfortable, but after scooping, I need to go up another cup at least! The cups are not as massive as you brain image thinks.

Thank you all here for the advice. I have just ordered some more from the Yours website sale. they are offering 10% off and free delivery to new customers. HTH

SpicyPear · 01/03/2013 12:49

For all the sceptics I was in a 34C before one of the bra threads a few months ago. Unusually I had my band measurement right but my cups all wrong. I'm now a very comfy and streamlined 34E and my boobs are not at all massive. I'd been smooshing half of them into a C because of this erroneous belief that a D is Jordan style huge.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 01/03/2013 12:57

Also agree with the others. Having swopped from a 38B to 34DD. I put my old bra on the other day and felt like my boobs were all over the place!

lookout · 01/03/2013 13:00

Hi all.

HazleNutt gave me a guide of 34FF yesterday from the measurements I gave, and I found a couple of 36C's lurking in the back of my drawer last night which I tried on. The C was way too small, but the 36 actually felt as tight as I would want to go, a 34 would definitely be too tight, I think.

If I were to go for a 36 instead of a 34, what would the cup size come down to?

StatisticallyChallenged · 01/03/2013 13:03

Lookout did you try the 36 back to front?!

OP posts:
delilahlilah · 01/03/2013 13:04

lookout you may not find this to be the case! When more boob goes in the cup, the back size fits better! Blush

delilahlilah · 01/03/2013 13:06

Companies like M&S need to start making the bra fit the boob instead of the boob having to fit the bra they decide you need. A much better range of sizes is needed.

lookout · 01/03/2013 13:09

SC, yes I tried back to front and did the finger test and it was tight. It is an M&S bra, admittedly.

delilah do you think then if I tried a 'proper' 34FF from one of the recommended websites it would fit differently then? How unusual!

fanoftheinvisibleman · 01/03/2013 13:09

Lookout, honestly I was horrified at the suggestion I should drop from 38 to 34. And when I first put it in it felt horrible and restrictive. I felt like I wouldn't relax at all but it got comfy very quickly. When I put my 38 on the other day it felt like I could turn round inside it!

delilahlilah · 01/03/2013 13:16

Are you close enough to shop to go and try some on lookout ? I'm well pleased with my new ones so far, but can't wait to try another cup size up. I am so shocked by the difference. It makes them migrate north too!!

Beksybob · 01/03/2013 13:17

Bra shop fail (part 2). They don't have anything in a 30. Oh well, will maybe go to town tomorrow. Which is a big deal for me, I don't do shopping! It's still only a small town though, no Debenhams or Bravissimo or the like, just an M&S I'm afraid.

WishYouWereMine · 01/03/2013 13:22

I've just been to Bravissimo... The 38HH was too big but I ended up in a 38FF. I must have very long skinny boobs lol. Very happy though :D thank you!

lookout · 01/03/2013 13:32

delilah there's only an M&S near me, so afraid I wouldn't find much there. And price wise, I'd much rather try and get online. I'd like to get two different sizes and try them both then send back whichever doesn't fit well, but I don't know what cup size I would need if I went with a 36.

Any help much appreciated!

delilahlilah · 01/03/2013 13:34

lookout I didn't mean for buying Wink trying on is free!! Just thought it might help to actually try them out.
If you try 36 then possibly an F, I would think. Am sure SC will be able to confirm Smile

lookout · 01/03/2013 13:39

Do you think they'd have 34FF in an M&S?? Sooooo long since I looked at bras Blush

CelticPromise · 01/03/2013 13:54

If you go down in the band go up in the cup, so F. M&S do have styles up to GG so worth a look, although I find their bras a touch flimsy for the job (am a 32G/GG).

CelticPromise · 01/03/2013 13:54

Duh I meant up in the band, down in the cup...

FryOneFatManic · 01/03/2013 14:09

I have been directing people here for fitting advice, don't know if anyone I know has taken up this advice yet Grin

I have been told that I'll need to keep an eye on my size regularly as boobs do continue to grow as you age (hence the number of old ladies with mahoosive boobs, certainly in our area).

Plopsicle · 01/03/2013 14:09

I've just been to Debenhams on my lunch break, tried on some 30E's as recommended by CelticPromise. I am amazed at how much better they fit, they make my boobs look so much smaller and perkier.

Even better managed to get 2 bras for £6 each in the sale! Debenhams have loads of their 'Gorgeous' brand in the sale, there were lots of small back/big cup sizes there.

WishYouWereMine · 01/03/2013 14:29

Wow! My boobs look great! They're up and supported and I can't stop looking at them hehe.

CelticPromise · 01/03/2013 14:34

Good news plopsicle and Wish! You'll never look back!
