to find DH intensely irritating at the moment

DD now 10 weeks.
DH is currently awful to live with. He is doing a phd at the moment which he hates but needs for his career. He is totally miserable with it but isn't actually getting any work done. He keeps on saying he is tired & taking naps but he has almost never got up with the baby in the night. He spends hours "working" in his study but actually is internet shopping or messing with his golf clubs for much of the time. Despite all of this & new baby he still finds time for regular golf & going to watch the football. He also spends hours on the phone discussing the baby with MIL which is annoying me probably more than it should.
he recently was very supportive to me when I was doing a very stressful job which I hated (& so quit when started mat leave) so feel I should now repay him but currently finding him too annoying to be nice to!

I would be the exact same in your situation if im honest! I would just tell him how you feel you never know he might change Smile

Not much sympathy here - I had dd during my PhD while dh worked long hours and travelled. He needs to decide whether he is going to actually get this PhD or not. And in any case, that is no excuse for not helping with HIS baby.
