To have felt sorry for Oscar Pistorius until I read that his brother was also in court last week for killing a woman?

It's in The Guardian, sorry - can't post link as I'm using my phone. Apparently he knocked down and killed a female motorcyclist in 2010 and is on culpable homicide (manslaughter) charges. He appeared in court two days before Oscar.

What is it with that family?

What have his brother's actions to do with OP's trial? What a ridiculous op.

Salmotrutta · 24/02/2013 11:19

I hope you never serve on a jury OP.

JaneFonda · 24/02/2013 11:19

YABVU. And ignorant.

HollyBerryBush · 24/02/2013 11:20

You arent reading the right papers Grin if you read the DM today Mwhahahahaha you'll find the police have released the autopsy on poor Reeva and the cricket bat was used to bludgeon her head in. Apparently.

I wil link!

Alert! Alert! DM link !!!

bellejar · 24/02/2013 11:21

Oh come on, once is unfortunate, two is just careless (another Oscar).

OP posts:
JaneFonda · 24/02/2013 11:22

Er, what are you talking about OP?

VivaLeBeaver · 24/02/2013 11:23

He is not responsible for his brothers actions.

Plus is brother is charged with causing a death due to a traffic accident. While obviously not good it's in no way comparable to a murder.

countrykitten · 24/02/2013 11:23

Am I actually alone in hating the DM? Can't believe how many Mnetters read the toxic thing.

Hmm
Salmotrutta · 24/02/2013 11:27

Whatever your opinion of the Oscar Pistorius case ( and I cannot get my head around how much detail has been released before trial!) his brother case is a totally separate issue.

You sound like a gossiping fishwife OP.

Blowin · 24/02/2013 11:27
germyrabbit · 24/02/2013 11:29

yes it's a separate issue but quite bizarre

Salmotrutta · 24/02/2013 11:30

Why is so much detail being released?

I know it's not going to be a jury trial and will be heard by the judge alone but it's surely ridiculous for all this to be playing out in the media before the actual trial?

HollyBerryBush · 24/02/2013 11:33

I can't get my head round their entire judicial system at all.

Everyone is up on a fresh murder charge for something that happened years ago. Utter madness. And it's not because fresh evidence has come to light, it's because the family of the deceased want it reopened. Absolutely bizarre.

NamelessHereForEvermore · 24/02/2013 11:35

I'm sure there must be others here who have experience of the South African way of doing things. I know I am not alone in thinking that this forthcoming trial is being nobbled, bit by bit, and will continue to be so in the next year (or however long it takes) until there is no longer any possiblity of Pistorius getting a fair trial. If this was happening to a trial here there would be contempt of court charges flying all over the place - what we are witnessing is sabotage, plain and simple. I wonder if money has changed hands?

Salmotrutta · 24/02/2013 11:36

And why did you feel sorry for Oscar Pistorius anyway OP?

Whether it was murder or manslaughter a young woman is dead because of his actions.

fanoftheinvisibleman · 24/02/2013 11:36

Bloody hell op...I hope my dh is never judged on his brothers actions. Sad

I guess you are the sort of delightful person who made my dh fear he would have everyone judging him despite never putting a foot wrong in his life. I hope your family are perfect op because sadly I know their actions can shatter your life too Sad

HollyBerryBush · 24/02/2013 11:38

They'll get off. They have the money to bribe ensure the best defence lawyer - oh yes, they both already have him. Kenny Oldwage, this bloke is good.

Mr Oldwage is a highly-respected advocate in South Africa who successfully defended Sizwe Mankazana, who was charged with culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol after he lost control of his vehicle, killing Nelson Mandela's 13-year-old great-grandchild Zenani in 2010.

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 24/02/2013 11:42

There is nothing on the BBC about the cricket bat?

I find it so weird that so much detail is emerging, is this normal for SA?

montmartre · 24/02/2013 11:45

Hollyberrybush- your post is possibly the most distateful I've ever read on here. Are you seriously laughing and gloating because a young woman has been beaten to death?

I feel so sorry for his parents, and for Reeva Steenkamp's family. I cannot imagine they hell they're going through atm. Her poor parents have no privacy, and they have a lot to come to terms with at the moment.

Show some compassion, have some decorum.

Moominsarehippos · 24/02/2013 11:52

I feel sorry for the parents of Reeva and Oscar (I know his mum's dead). Is life so cheap out there? What are the odds of two sons being in this situation. They are, of course, completely unconnected. Wasn't the first policeman in charge of the investigation taken off the case as he is also facing a murder/manslaughter charge?

I can't imagine being a parent and thinking 'I had children, and now two other women are grieving'.

inchoccyheaven · 24/02/2013 11:52

I don't think Holly was laughing about the crime at all, I read it at taking the mickey about the DM paper instead of the guardian Confused I could be wrong though.

HorribleMother · 24/02/2013 11:56

The whole thing is turning into a farce.

Viviennemary · 24/02/2013 11:56

I didn't think Oscar Pistorius should have got bail for such a very serious charge. But I can't think how in any way what his brother has done or not done can have anything to do with him.
