To have felt sorry for Oscar Pistorius until I read that his brother was also in court last week for killing a woman?

It's in The Guardian, sorry - can't post link as I'm using my phone. Apparently he knocked down and killed a female motorcyclist in 2010 and is on culpable homicide (manslaughter) charges. He appeared in court two days before Oscar.

What is it with that family?

Ali, the first thing I did when I read the link on the Daily Mail was check BBC and there was nothing on there about her being beaten with a baseball bat.

montmartre · 24/02/2013 11:57

Perhaps, however her entire post is gleeful in tone, completely inappropriate to the circumstances in my opinion.

TheSmallPrint · 24/02/2013 11:59

Wtf has this got to do with OP?? Seriously, some people.

montmartre · 24/02/2013 12:07

Good Lord! If we stuck to the OP, threads would be very short and boring Wink
Some of the best threads on here occur when people deviate from the OP.

gazzalw · 24/02/2013 12:07

There is an awful lot of hearsay connected to this sad case. I think everything should be taken with a pinch of salt really until the trial.

I'm pretty sure that in the UK half of the forensics don't even hit the headlines or come out into the public domain when the trial is/has taken place.

Yes, one way or another discrediting accusations are flying around willy nilly - I'm pretty sure that this won't bring clear-cut justice to this case in any robust form.

Smartiepants79 · 24/02/2013 12:15

BBC completely contradicts the DM in regards to the autopsy. It says that the bail hearing was told the autopsy showed no defensive wounds or signs of assault.
Agree this is a farce. Not sure there is any chance of 'the truth' or a proper trial.

Booyhoo · 24/02/2013 12:20

why would you feel sorry for someone who killed their partner?

why would the fact their brother knocked someone down make you feel less sorry for them?

i know it's sunday but you dont have to switch the brain off entirely.

BadabingBadabong · 24/02/2013 12:21

My brother is an armed robber, does that mean I'm a thief aswell?

( my brother isn't an armed robber, just trying to point out how bloody ridiculous the op is)

Once is unfortunate, twice is careless??? Wtaf, a beautiful young lady has died and you refer to it as unfortunate ?
Ignorant, stupid post

Therapy?

gazzalw · 24/02/2013 12:33

I think the OP was trying to make some type of Oscar Wildean witticism...misplaced in the circumstances.

BoneyBackJefferson · 24/02/2013 12:35

Booyhoo

"why would you feel sorry for someone who killed their partner?"

Domestic Violence
Rape
or just an accident.

I'm sure that there are more.

AnyFucker · 24/02/2013 12:38

These situation always bring out the worst in of people, don't they ?

PuffPants · 24/02/2013 12:39

I think that DM headline is actually a lie and I'm amazed they are running it. No other paper is confirming it. The prosecution stated RS had no other injuries on her body, other than the bullet wounds. They said that in court during a bail hearing. If they had revealed the cricket bat thing OP would certainly have been denied bail. The prosecution is not allowed to keep stuff back for the trial, it does not work that way.

I agree his brother's case is one of those things that makes you briefly raise your eyebrows but more at the perverse timing than anything else.

The only way I can see it becoming an issue for OP is that Carl Pistorius is a key witness - first on the scene of the crime - and his credibility will be mauled by the prosecution.

bellejar · 24/02/2013 12:43

BLOODY HELL I leave mumsnet logged in and DH thinks it's funny to start a fuckwittage thread.

Really, Belle ? Hmm

SamuelWestsMistress · 24/02/2013 12:47

Yabvu

But it's a strange string of coincidences just how many attempted murders and murders seem to be linked to this case.

ImperialBlether · 24/02/2013 12:48

Right.

VenusRising · 24/02/2013 12:49

SA is a violent place.

Even the police man who was on the case, has been accused of murdering seven people while drunkenly on duty.

I feel sorry for them all actually: but the victims especially.

FergusSingsTheBlues · 24/02/2013 12:50

Haha, OP, time for a name change, me love.

Booyhoo · 24/02/2013 12:53

BBJ

it is very clear that DV/rape/or just an accident is not what happened in the case of reeva steenkamp's murder.

FeistyLass · 24/02/2013 12:53

I don't think his brother's case is relevant but then I didn't have sympathy for Oscar Pistorius anyway.
My sympathy is reserved for Reeva and her family.
As for the BBC, their reporting of this case has been rather poor. Their SA correspondent has mused on Oscar being 'a broken man' and went all fanboy about being able to sit so close to him in court. His summary of the bail hearing didn't include any criticism of Oscar even though The Guardian and other titles said that the magistrate questioned Oscar's affidavit by saying he didn't understand why Reeva wouldn't have shouted out or why Oscar would have put himself in a vulnerable position by entering the bathroom rather than fleeing. So although I definitely wouldn't take the DM as gospel, I also wouldn't rule a fact out because it didn't appear on the BBC.

Looiloo79 · 24/02/2013 12:58

I don't feel sorry for him one bit. He clearly murdered his girlfriend whether he believed it was an intruder or not he pulled the trigger 4 times and killed her. If you listened to the statements read out on Friday there are so many questions that need asking.

His brother has nothing to do with this case and whatever he has done is in his own hands.

AViewfromtheFridge · 24/02/2013 12:59

I also think there has been confusion here re the use of "OP," which is clearly ambiguous in this context.

bellejar · 24/02/2013 13:08

Yes really. Shall I LTB?

unless you where there you don't know whether it was an accident or not.
