Dh and I both turned 40 in 2010 but neither of us wanted a party of any kind and wanted to celebrate with our dc, so we went on holiday. Other ideas I suppose would be tickets to something or somewhere you'd all enjoy?

I would love for us to go on holiday abroad it's just where ?. That would be great.

First of all, it is never too late to get married. :)
Going on a holiday is a great idea! How old are your children, and what kind of things does your husband (and the rest of you) enjoy? Fishing, hiking, sight seeing somewhere?

How about Canada? Its got a great varying landscape, mix of active/ chill out stuff for the family. Bit more low key than its southern neighbour so should be not as pricey. You could get married while on holiday so combining two big events into a special family event.
