To not be the appeal of hot tubs!

They seem to be everywhere, are expensive and popular. Why do people have them, how often do they use them. AIBU to just not get it, especially living in the UK - not exactly Beverly Hills or the Gold Coast. Most gardens are surrounded by neighbours who can see your every move. Really what is the appeal and which Mnetters have them?

I have always thought they were really tacky, and wouldn't want one. But I will probably be accused of being jealous. Grin

BrianButterfield · 23/02/2013 23:07

I like the hot water bit but not then fact you have to sit in your back yard! I couldn't get in one with friends either - I'm British thank you and I prefer everyone to be fully dressed. They scream either "loved 50 Shades of Grey" or "wacky one on Come Dine With e" IMO.

Sparklingbrook · 23/02/2013 23:09

They had to crane it over the neighbour's house. Confused And back over again when they moved. New owners didn't want it surprisingly.

DangerousBeanz · 23/02/2013 23:11

WE stayed in a hotel and got a private one with our room. The noise got our nerves, and the chlorine buggered up my hair. Wouldn't bother again.

Sparklingbrook · 23/02/2013 23:13

They are really noisy, I forgot that.

janji · 23/02/2013 23:14

I'm not a snob honestly but these along with those huge widescreen tvs crammed into spaces often simply not suitable scream chav and no taste!

timidviper · 23/02/2013 23:15

Not my sort of thing at all. Makes me think, probably unreasonably, of throwing keys in a dish and having pampas grass in the front garden!

hiddenhome · 23/02/2013 23:21

Eeew, I always imagine them to be full of 'secretions' Confused

HollyBerryBush · 23/02/2013 23:28

I'm glad I'm not alone in this!

A collegue keeps asking me round for a hot tub evening!

Not in this life time Grin

Sparklingbrook · 23/02/2013 23:28

Ooh you don't need to worry about that hidden you just chuck some chemicals in every day.

LayMizzRarb · 23/02/2013 23:35

Each to their own. I love mine. In the summer when it is really hot, I sit in mine for a while to cool down before bed and have a really good nights sleep. It has a filter that constantly cleans the water, far quicker than a public swimming pool. Any secretions are at least from my family. I try not to think about public swimming pools too much, and the kids wee and snot, and adult sweat floating around...yuk...

One of my friends has one and she loves it. I can't see the appeal either. I have used hers a couple of times but I don't think they are particularly comfortable, and if it's not too cold to sit in then it's too hot, and either way it's cold when you get out. Especially if its not attached to your house as most people seem to have them in a log cabin type thing in the garden.

Horsemad · 23/02/2013 23:53

My BIL has one but I won't use it - don't like them!

Sparklingbrook · 23/02/2013 23:54

Horse do you 'accidentally' forget to take your bikini when you go? Grin

Horsemad · 24/02/2013 00:06

Nope, I just told them when they got it that I wouldn't be going in it...

They know better than to try and persuade me otherwise Grin

MrsMushroom · 24/02/2013 00:08

Gross. I hate the way people share them....oh yes, I'd love to get in a tub of warm, sweat ridden, arse juice addled FILTH with you!

Vom.

Horsemad · 24/02/2013 00:10

Grin MrsM!!!

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2013 00:11

What do you do when you are in them? Just sit there? In a big wooden tub in your back garden? Confused

LayMizzRarb · 24/02/2013 00:14

Relax in the water watching films on my iPad, reading a book, MNetting..

IneedAsockamnesty · 24/02/2013 00:15

I have one,its nice to use at night with a glass of wine and a good book.

Yes I always wear swimwear no I don't swing the only people who use it are family,it gets treated by the same company who deal with my pool

Backtobedlam · 24/02/2013 00:19

Its a good place to chat...nice music in the background, mood lighting, glass of wine, and no distractions of tv, housework, phones etc. I'd never go in a public one though, water in ours is crystal clear but I've seen the one at the local pool with froth floating on it, gross.

Sparklingbrook · 24/02/2013 00:21

So once it's delivered and filled with water does that water ever get changed?

Pixel · 24/02/2013 00:21

Our next door neighbours have one, bloomin' noisy thing whirring away all summer when the rest of us want a bit of peace in our gardens Angry. And that's without their drunken parties at 2am.
One thing I find quite amusing though is that a dip in the hot tub seems to be compulsory for all guests. I hear them making feeble excuses but they never get out of it. Usually they claim to have forgotten their costumes but guess what? There are loads of spares! Grin
