To be tempted to take grapes back to the market stall I bought them from before Xmas

And ask them what the frig they've done to them because they're not off yet!?

Bought them 2 weeks before Xmas at the fruit stall inside the hospital I go to, just past Xmas it ended up as a bit of a joke as they hadn't gone off yet but we kept them to see how long they could possibly last.

The buggers show no sign of ever dying! Confused

Dorian Gray? Your man that doesn't age but the magic portrait in his attic does? Oscar Wilde, innit.

ripsishere · 22/02/2013 03:59

they do have feet. They are sold here. DD stood watching the butcher in the supermarket chop off the nails.
She now rates the shops according to whether the chicken feet have nails on or not.

Tee2072 · 22/02/2013 05:37

I got it koby.

And, yes, snopes debunked the KFC thing ages ago.

sashh · 22/02/2013 06:31

have they been irradiated?

McNewPants2013 · 22/02/2013 06:39

I thought this was someone bumping an old thread up.

But how have they have not gone off is weird.

Buzzardbird · 22/02/2013 06:45

Arse grapes.put some prep h on them and see if they shrivel up.

ErikNorseman · 22/02/2013 06:54

The chickens with no beaks or heads is from a book isn't it? Margaret Atwood? I'm not sure. It's definitely fictional. KFC make their product from actual non gm chicken. Not that that's much to recommend it.

fluffygal · 22/02/2013 07:30

I saw that on FB about KFC and went there the other day. They had a massive banner which said '100% real chicken' so no idea what that FB thing is about! Says chicken everywhere!

Tee2072 · 22/02/2013 07:37

Sorry, that should have been Kobay. Bad Tee!

The Snopes article about KFC and their chicken.

Chelvis · 22/02/2013 07:49

There's a book called 'The Takeaway secret' which has a great KFC recipie, if you fancy making your own version with good quality chicken. I haven't eaten it (I'm vegetarian!), but DH loves it, as well as the big mac sauce and kebab recipie from that book. It's very cheap on the kindle!

Beaverfeaver · 22/02/2013 08:04

Grapes - your DP has sneakily been replacing them without you knowing.

They were fresh yesterday don't you know !

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:05

Sashh That is seeming the most likey explanation but for a whole 2 months!? I've looked today and they're now a bit wrinkled but apart from that, still perfectly green. Confused

It was a very small fresh fruit and veg stall in a hospital so I thought they would be pretty organic.

Chelvis Thanks for that, addicted to the big mac sauce.

Koba Ahhh, I see what you meant. I was knackered last night when I posted this and my brain wasn't working properly. :o

I had this with some grapes from Tesco. They were in the fridge for months. I threw them away in the end as I was worried about what they had been sprayed with.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:30

Glad it hasn't just happened to me. I agree these must have been sprayed with something horrible, didn't expect that from a local fruit market stall in the hospital.

notsofrownieface · 22/02/2013 12:35

Where are the grapes from? Because when you buy apples in the supermarket they could be a year old. So maybe you just have some uber fresh grapes.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:36

Tiny market stall in the hospital.

Is that really true about apples!? Shock

OP posts:
notsofrownieface · 22/02/2013 12:37

Yep

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:38

I once had a (an??) helium balloon (rubber not metallic) that stayed properly floaty for six weeks. Amazing.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:47

Wow, I wish they were all like that. Helium balloons seem a waste of money, they go down so quickly. :(

OP posts:
Moominsarehippos · 22/02/2013 12:48

I asked what they put in them and they said 'special liquid'. So now we know!

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:50

Ohhh. Did they not tell you what the "special liquid" was?

:o

KobayashiMaru · 22/02/2013 12:50

Thats always been true of apples though, like potatoes they would be harvested and used throughout the winter when there was no food to pick at that time. There is nothing strange about "old" apples.
Grapes is another matter.

SchroSawMargeryDaw · 22/02/2013 12:57

I had no idea apples kept for so long. Learn something new every day. :)

Grapes are odd though.

I was bought two helium balloons when my DS1 was born...a foot shape and a circle one! They are very much alive and kicking (stuffed in a wardrobe in the spare room) and he was 3 last December!!!!!
