To think sofas are for sitting on, not lying on.

I know I am (maybe!) but for some reason it drives me mad that DH doesn't sit on the sofa, he always lies on it. If he wants to lie down, why doesn't he go upstairs instead of taking up all the room.
Grrr. . . Grin

Oh. Am a bit Shock and Blush at this thread. DH is a layer downer and I'm a sitter. I've always believed that I am right and he is wrong. And that most people thought like me. Now I know how people felt when they found out the world isn't flat. Sad

Sugarice · 21/02/2013 19:10

I never lie on the sofa even if I'm dog tired,it never crosses my mind plus I always have to get up to do something and can't settle, I'm a fidget!

Ds1-17 can sprawl along the sofa and veg out for hours, it drives ne insane for some reason.

I understand your twitchiness!

WheresTheCat · 21/02/2013 19:11

Oh MrsMushroom - you the only person who agrees with me. And I know we are not BU Grin

I have a whole new thread now though - why does my cat have her own chair?

I lie on the sofa if someone else isn't needing the space. It's better for your calves and ankles to raise your legs when sitting and more comfortable

PenelopePisstop · 21/02/2013 19:15

I have a 19 yo DS doing exactly this at moment. Just read the OP's opening post an he said "God .. Get over it"!

That's because I agree with you OP Smile

yuleheart · 21/02/2013 19:20

8 seat corner sofa here - definately for lying on!!!

2rebecca · 21/02/2013 19:22

If I'm sitting on the sofa though I hate anyone sitting at the other end and putting their feet up next to me. My MIL did that when we went on holiday together, I used to have to move, putting your feet up on the sofa should only be done when you have the sofa to yourself otherwise it's just encroaching into someone else's space and having someone's feet wiggling near you is a bit yak.

NotGoodNotBad · 21/02/2013 19:24

"I can hear my Grandma saying it's lazy and untidy"

Well there's your answer. People who don't lie on the sofa are grannies! My mum and in-laws have very stiff upright sofas that you just can't lounge on or lie on. Where's the fun in that? Confused

maybunny · 21/02/2013 19:28

I personally like to sit with legs up, tucked underneath me, so a bit of both really!
But I always remember my nct teacher saying 'why stand when you can sit, why sit when you can lie down' does this still count when youngest dc is 6 months old or am I a couch potato?

SummerRainIsADistantMemory · 21/02/2013 19:34

I can't relax with my feet on the ground so YABU!

WheresTheCat · 21/02/2013 20:01

As far as I see there are 4 people who agree that I am NBU. So, in true AIBU style I am going to put my hands over my ears and shout 'la la la' so I can't hear the (many many) rest of you! Grin Grin

I've just realised that I dont think I have seen DD3 sit on our sofas! At aged 8 I think she was a born lounger, like her mum!

stargirl1701 · 21/02/2013 20:15

YABU. I always lie on the sofa. Haven't done since DD arrived 5 months ago, mind you.

PenelopePisstop · 21/02/2013 20:17

wheresthecat my DM will most definately agree with -so that's 5!

She deliberately bought a chesterfield sofa because it would be too uncomfortable for DS & DD to lie on. DS still did though Smile

littlewhitebag · 21/02/2013 20:21

I have two sitting rooms - and i lie on the settees in both rooms. The family room has a corner sofa which is made for lounging. The sitting room has two settee and an arm chair with footstool. I also have a sun room withe a big squishy armchair and footstool plus a chaise longue.
As a family we like to lounge.

catlady1 · 21/02/2013 20:30

I have to at least put my feet up, I'm short and my feet don't reach the floor if I sit up straight. Well unless I perch on the edge but what's the bloody point? My settee is really rubbish for lying on though, the arms are too high or something, so if I lay down I have to lie completely in the middle and prop my head up with cushions. DP prefers to sit in the chair. In fact I don't think I've ever seen him lie on the sofa... He's never said anything about me doing it though.

NotGoodNotBad · 21/02/2013 21:27

"I have to at least put my feet up, I'm short and my feet don't reach the floor if I sit up straight."

My in-laws have special sofas for this. Short across the seat, front to back. Really uncomfortable for me, I find myself squirming and wishing I could lounge around!

BrianButterfield · 21/02/2013 21:31

I never ever sit on a chair if I can help it. My legs always have to be up in some way. I obviously will sit when it's socially necessary but I don't like it. I feel like I'll do what I want on my own furniture in my own house!

Tigerbomb · 21/02/2013 21:33

we have a corner suite that is knicknamed the sofa of doom. We lie on it - 5 minutes later one of us is asleep. Every single time.

NotGoodNotBad · 21/02/2013 21:49

Ha ha Tiger!

Meglet · 21/02/2013 21:51

yabu. Feet up every time IMO.

SacharissaCripslock · 21/02/2013 21:54

I'm lying down on mine right now! Grin

It's a 3-seater and it's MINE! DH and the DS's share the 2-seater. Blush

I'm disabled and can't sit for long so ner. Therefore YABU. Wink

GregBishopsBottomBitch · 21/02/2013 23:04

My DD has made a bed on the 3 seater, shes asleep in bed, mummy should get her fat bum on it, looks so comfy.

TiaMariaandSpringCleaning · 21/02/2013 23:13

We have a huge corner sofa and I always put my feet up on it. DH generally sits though because if he puts his feet up he falls asleep!

I never put my feet up in anyone's else's house though, even if I'm invited to (don't mind people putting theirs up on mine though (minus their shoes!)

VanitasVanitatum · 21/02/2013 23:23

Just sit on top of him!! They soon make room with judicious use of elbows.
