In the queue of a cafe where there are lots of signs asking people to show consoderation at busy times about sitting down before ordering at last three people blatantly sit at the remaining tables whilst i and others arw qaiting to be served.

Aibu to have said very loudly so that one part of the offending party that it was very selfish of people. The. Sales assistant said she had told people about this before and was shouted at.

I was made to wait for a table simply because people were being selfish.

I've never even thought I shouldn't "reserve" a table before getting food before MN!

We always, always find a table first, someone stays there while the other gets the food. How moronic to do anything else!

And why should children give up their seats on the bus unless they can sit on their parents' lap or an old or disabled person needs the seat?

Why are adults more entitled to seats than children?

I can't believe I wrote 'loan' earlier and not 'loan'!
I agree AnnaRack-I wouldn't go anywhere again if I was told off.
If they want to save money by employing less staff they need to find a way of sorting the seating that suits the customer.

Done it again!!! lone

AnnaRack · 21/02/2013 19:17

Exotic - exactly! Off for a Brew

FabulousFreaks · 21/02/2013 19:28

No point in getting irate about it as it is common practice. Just drop your coat on a chair and save a table yourself. You aren't going to change things

exoticfruits · 21/02/2013 19:34

They could all do it. One M&S cafe has a brilliant system where you queue up, you are shown to a seat and then , once you have the seat, you queue up and order and it is brought to your table. When I asked it was to save arguments. Sad that all M & S ones can't do it. As a lone person it is just as good because the staff member allocating seats knows she has allocated it even though you are not there.
Basically the cafe doesn't care-they want as many people as possible served, as cheaply as possible, and they don't want people at empty tables.
I will always get the seat first-it is sheer common sense. I am often on my own and can't-there is always some where to sit.
If I am with someone we are there to be sociable-the seat is important- but if I am on my own the refreshment is important and I can sit anywhere.

I don't think saving a table is a terrible thing to do in fast food restaurants, the majority of people do tend to want to be in and out in these places so waiting time isn't horrendous if not ideal.

Although I went into a macdonalds the other day with my 5yo and 6mo in the buggy. It was quite busy. There was a woman taking up 3, 2 seater tables with 2 children and no food/drink. I asked if I could sit down and she said no, were using them. As I walked away I could hear her kids saying no were not mummy! It was around 15 mins later before the friend she was waiting for appeared through the front door, she wasn't even in the building. That is selfish.

I never had any problems going into McDonalds on my own - people shared tables with strangers and we all chatted. My rage was at a stop off motorway cafe with lots of coach loads of people, where there were small tables with 3 or 4 chairs only.
Didn't like the 'rat race' situation so never involved myself again with coach journeys. I opted out!

hoobnoob · 22/02/2013 12:19

Oh dear, it seems I'm being rude then! I would always grab a table while someone orders, never thought it would be seen as being rude.

Just goes to show, you always run the risk of offending someone, no matter what you do.

PootlePosyPerkin · 22/02/2013 12:30

*Why would anyone buy food if they can't be sure there's somewhere to sit and eat it?

You'd look like a right gormless twat standing there with a tray of food that's going cold. *

Grin exactly why I don't understand this whole argument. Nicely put.

PootlePosyPerkin · 22/02/2013 12:30

Sorry, bold fail - but you get what I'm saying.

LadyFlumpalot · 22/02/2013 12:41

To be honest, if I stopped at a busy cafe and it didn't look like there would be anywhere to sit, I'd go find somewhere else to eat, thereby neatly saving myself from having nowhere to sit!
