To think The Brits was invented to make me feel old and out of touch?

Watched it last night with DH & DS1

I didn't recognise half the bands/acts nominated. Neither did DH. But interestingly, neither did (teen) DS1. How many people honestly knew about Alt-J or The Vaccines or some others I can't remember the names of (the American dark haired girl who won best female or something?), before last night?

God bless One Direction is all I can say. They may be crap but at least I know who they are Blush

Now you can all come and embarrass me and tell me you're all 'down with da kids' and I'm the only one out of touch Blush Blush

I briefly thought about watching the red carpet bit - was knackered and thought it would be a bit of mindless celeb watching to finish the day. I managed about 3 minutes. There's a difference between mindless and beyond irritating. I am definitely too old (at the ripe old age of 36) for that nonsense these days.

mrsjay · 21/02/2013 10:32

I think when you have to ask who they are it is time to stop watching the Brits Blush I dont have a clue who ben howard is and My friend facebooked is he off the telly does he present something he is quite a good singer though Grin

even james cordon looked like 1Ds grandad and trying to be down with the kids

mrsjay · 21/02/2013 10:32

mrsjay · 21/02/2013 10:36

I can remember when they were the Britania awards Blush

badtasteflump · 21/02/2013 10:37

I thought James Corden looked strangely like Robbie Williams's lost twin when they sat together - and I used to fancy Robbie back in the olden days ...

I reminded myself of my dad when he used to sit there watching Top of the Pops, constantly asking me 'Who's that then?' when just about every single band came on. I would never tell him; I was too busy rolling my eyes in disgust that he didn't recognise Duran Duran....

And where were Oasis? It's not the Brits if you don't have Noel wandering up looking like a Hobo and mouthing Fuck Off at the camera. Oh the good old days Smile

Don't feel bad Mrsjay. My best Brits memory is the one when Mick Fleetwood and Sam Fox were hosting Grin

DD1 who is nearly 20 was a bit meh about the whole thing

RedToothBrush · 21/02/2013 10:57

The Brits are old and out of touch. Its got nothing to do with you! They've only ever been good for one thing.

Drinking games.

badtasteflump · 21/02/2013 10:59

And WTF is going on with Simon Cowell's left cheek? Shock

Couldn't believe how far it was sticking out! Did he have a gobstopper in there?

I know Alt-J and The Vaccines, thanks to DD. Had to explain to her, though, who Bryan Ferry is. Need to get the Roxy Music albums out tonight, or I may just up-date her iPod anyway.

Notonaschoolnight · 21/02/2013 12:25

I used to be clued up in my youth but now everyone once in a while I put a bit of time in and look at what's new and take a chance at a few albums and put them on my iPod so I already had Alt-j and Jessie Ware, I love the former and the latter is alright too but maybe a bit to girly for my taste

TheChimpParadox · 21/02/2013 12:26

Watched it last night with my two DS who are 12 and 10 but who knew the bands etc

I was waiting for Take That to come on ....Confused Grin

Felt bloody old and how my parents used to feel when I watched Top of the Pops.

Petsinmypudenda · 21/02/2013 12:29

I had no idea who 95% of the celebs were, got very excited when i saw the god that is Dave Ghrol " i know him!" I yelled to the scorn of my 9 year old niece " is he someones dad? Is that why hes there" said she.

Felt 100 years old when i am only 27 Grin

ScarletLady02 · 21/02/2013 12:30

I always used to watch it but haven't for a few years.

I remember the Jarvis Cocker/Michael Jackson debacle.

I have a few new albums - Maverick Sabre, Lianne Las Havas etc, but I'm really out of touch as well, and I used to be a proper cutting edge muso Grin
