Boy, boy, crazy boy, get loose boy. Easy does it turn off your juice boy. Go man go but not like a crazy schoolboy. Just play it cool boy, reeeal coooool!

fridayfreedom · 20/02/2013 23:56

Yes, I really hate it.... Too much going on music wise it really annoys me!

SoleSource · 20/02/2013 23:57

I loved the Sharks.

The rooftop dance America! was just fab

MardyBraWouldDoEddieRedmayne · 20/02/2013 23:57

Yanbu. I'd like to play Anita. "A boy like that - he keeeled your brrrother..."

MissVerinder · 20/02/2013 23:59

Sole! I am going to be singing that in my head now as I go to sleep.

Ooh, i'll get you back- Officer Krupky...

Mwahahahaha.

BOF · 21/02/2013 00:00

I love it! I particularly like the opening scene where the boys seemlessly segue into dance...I was driving past a group of lads in hoodies the other day, all hunched and lolloping, and I swear they looked like they were about to do exactly the same thing Grin.

BegoniaBampot · 21/02/2013 00:02

Just love all the WOWS and POWS! Keep expecting Batman and Robin to appear doing a little nifty pas de deux!

I helped with a production of this with a Youth Theatre Group about four years ago. It was really hard work but so much fun. The boys really got into the gang thing (in a very musical theatre way!)

BegoniaBampot · 21/02/2013 00:09

Brilliant BOF!

Oh Puerto Rico,
You lovely island . . .
Island of tropical breezes.
Always the pineapples growing,
Always the coffee blossoms blowing . . .

Puerto Rico . . .
You ugly island . . .
Island of tropic diseases.
Always the hurricanes blowing,
Always the population growing . . .
And the money owing,
And the babies crying,
And the bullets flying.
I like the island Manhattan.

Smoke on your pipe
And put that in!

bluebump · 21/02/2013 00:12

I love it too, might have to watch it again soon.

BackforGood · 21/02/2013 00:17

On Film 2013 ??? Have they finally remade it ???

I can't stand the version I have on film - it just ruins what is possibly the best musical EVER. I've seen it on stage a few times oveer the years - from school productions to professional, and each and every one has been fantastic, but putting ballet moves for gangs Hmm - it really was a big mistake.

Such fab music though. Great way to do Romeo and Juliet too, for those who are a bit harder to engage with 16th Century Literature!

MissMogwi · 21/02/2013 00:18

YANBU. I love it.

Actually, I haven't forced it on introduced my DDs to it yet, a plan for weekend I think!

BegoniaBampot · 21/02/2013 00:20

Sorrel - was checking and couldn't believe I missed that line to! mumsnet needs an edit function!

Backford - are you talking about the 60's movie? If so be gone from my thread, you philistine!

BegoniaBampot · 21/02/2013 00:33

I'd love to see it on stage.

YANBU. I saw the original film but with a live orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall last year for the 50th anniversary (I think). Still absolutely amazing and very emotional when the audience went crazy clapping and cheering for long dead performers and contributors when the credits rolled.

bruffin · 21/02/2013 12:50

Funnily enough my Dd 15 finally got round to watching last night (thank you glee) and loved it.
The film is brilliant and have loved it since i was a little girl.

Southeastdweller · 21/02/2013 12:51

Yes indeed. Saw this on the big screen two years ago and it was great. I now have the bluray and the picture and sound are cracking!

Crinkle77 · 21/02/2013 12:51

I love it. My fave is Tonight
