to think my friend looks silly driving around with her car roof down in February?

Friend bought a new car 6ish months ago, it is her pride and joy. Think constant updates, lots of photos on facebook etc.

Today we were saying what a nice day it was ... clear skies, sun shining - but it was obviously still freezing.

Friend says "yes it was so nice I've been driving around with the roof down"

See if I had a that sort of car I would only put the roof down when it was actually hot.

I know she has probably been dying to do this .... but regardless of who it was - if I saw someone driving with their roof down in February I'd be thinking numpty what a complete show off

Well I'm a total div because I have a convertible mini and I hardly ever have the roof down! Can't wear sunglasses so the sun blinds me. Plus it makes my hair blow in my eyes annoyingly.

I thi k the friend is a bit naff but harmless with constant fb updates, but yesterday was the perfect day for the roof to be down if you're not a div.

Isn't the car heated from the engine, so no extra fuel required?

Maybe she likes a bit of fresh air and breeze to blow through cobwebs away. Sounds lovely actually. I had to make do with winding my window down yesterday :-(

I love that headscarf tied round the neck look. Doubt I could carry it off though.

No, it's not high in my list of wants either, though I may get a fiat 500 convo next time, but that's a bit of a cheat. My shallow reasoning is I don't like the look of convertibles when the roof is up and my hair.

Good enough reasons I reckon.

I thought if you put the heating on it used more fuel, but I may be wrong.

With respect to those who thought that I was being too harsh saying the OP was being nasty, I guess it is all down to how you are in friendships and what you expect from your friends. I have a very close group of girlfriends I have been friends with for fifteen years. We love one another, care for one another, support one another. Being sniggery and a bit judgey is simply not on the cards, and I find it quite baffling to read posts like this about so called friends.

But to be honest, I would not be sniggery and judgey to someone who wasn't a friend either. Esp something like this, when someone is proud and excited.

I agree bbface. However, it is tres nobby to put pics of your car on fb so I see it from op's side too.

Sparkling I reckon I just didn't think it through. Plus I'm not that into cars, whereas DH had had a convertible before and loved it.
Touch of the DollyDaydreams I suppose .

For me it's the mention of FB in the OP that makes me a bit sympathetic toward Mocking.

Disclaimer-I am not on FB. I only have experience via DS1 (13). It's an eye opener.

To be honest bbface, I think that is a bit judgy too. And a bit black and white.

You seem to be suggesting that anyone who sees 'nasty, nasty nasty' as an over reaction has a lower expectation from their friends.

If the op were sniggering with her friends behind her mates back That would be nasty IMO. To come on an anonymous website to have a little whine is not the same thing.

I love my friends dearly and I would never talk about them in real life. But yes, sometimes - just sometimes- they are a bit batty and I might inwardly roll my eyes. I do so in the full and certain knowledge that they probably roll their eyes as my oddities too. It does not negate all my affection for them or their kindness or our mutual support.
It's not real life. Where to vent if not here? And the op is being mean but she didn't go and crap on her sunroof.

If she is laughing in real life then that is crappy . But this is aibu - it's vent central.

Another convertible lover signing in here - having a convertible is about more than just waiting for sunny hot days. The feel of the wind and being 'open' to the elements is great. Nice sunny day and I'd be rushing to get out - wrapped up in a coat, gloves and hat, roof down, heaters on and a cool pair of shades!!!

I don't think her enjoying her car is 'showing off' although I'd say living all her life through facebook probably is...

Depends on the car, heated seat, sunny day meant I used to drive my 911 with the hood down in early spring, which for a non heated car would be freezing. Never really cared what others made of it...that's why everyone can buy the car they choose you see!

The weather on Tuesday was perfect for the roof down, if I had my sports car still then I would have done the same.

In that case, in the UK, you'd probably hardly ever have it down.

I had my roof down yesterday too, and Monday, it was quite warm and springlike here. Heating on, wind-break in the back and it's lovely.

Actually, cooler days are better for roof down, you don't have hot sun beating down on your head

I always think people driving with the roof down on freezing cold days look a bit silly.

And no, I'm not jealous. I'm not a bit interested in cars as long as they get me from A to B.

The best days for driving with the top down are the clear, cold days of winter. Wrap up, air con on , bliss In summer it's too hot and I burn too easily for it to be comfortable.

I miss my convertible a lot in January/February but only rarely in July!

YABU and don't sound like much of a friend. Perhaps you should go out with her and maybe you could then understand what's so great about it?

It was 11° yesterday

If it was 11° in July which it quite often can be nobody would bat an eyelid but it would be just as cold.

God there are some overreactions to what seems a bit of a light-hearted thread! Tbh just thinking about driving with the roof down in this weather makes me cold brrrrrr. Wait until the summer for sure!

My brother owns a Ferrari and was driving with the roof down yesterday. It was 9°C and the sun was quite warm. If you have a nice car, and you don't feel cold or are wrapped up then why not?
