Friend bought a new car 6ish months ago, it is her pride and joy. Think constant updates, lots of photos on facebook etc.

Today we were saying what a nice day it was ... clear skies, sun shining - but it was obviously still freezing.

Friend says "yes it was so nice I've been driving around with the roof down"

Hmm

See if I had a that sort of car I would only put the roof down when it was actually hot.

I know she has probably been dying to do this .... but regardless of who it was - if I saw someone driving with their roof down in February I'd be thinking numpty what a complete show off Grin

As soon as i read the OP i thought I wonder if everyone will say Mocking is jealous.

I don't think everyone's dream is a convertible car.

YABU. My DH had the hood down yesterday when taking DCs out. Yes it was chilly but the sun was blazing and the heated seats were on. Not showing off, just enjoying the car.

You sound so nasty. Your poor friend, making conversation, proud of her car, and you being so scathing.

Nasty, nasty, nasty

Added to which, it was a beautiful day yesterday! Blue sky, sun, quite mild. Better than most days in June tbh.

Oh I don't think she sounds jealous Sparkling but its not a very kind way to talk about a friend. Not sure why the OP is bothered actually.

When it snowed a few weeks back we were stuck in traffic, next to us was a convertable with a 4 foot snow man in the passenger seat wearing sunglasses and a head scarf like bridget jones. Was fucking brilliant!

Not relevant to roof up or down but hey ho Grin

I had my rod down yesterday. Heating up full, heated seat on, crisp bright sky all around me. Don't knock it unti you've tried it. It's a fine way to travel

True Granny. I saw 'lots of photos on facebook' and did think Hmm though.

You can think a friend is a numpty without being jealous. Grin

Her car, her roof, her choice. Not sure about being unreasonable, but you certainly seem to be jealous. Why not try being happy for your friend that she had the pleasure of enjoying her car? I saw somebody else with the roof down on their car, fair enough, I had the windows open when I was out in the car yesterday as it was lovely.

I don't see the problem. It was a gorgeous day here, blazing sunshine and completely still.

There isn't really much point having a convertible if you're not going to put the top down.

We put the roof down whenever it isn't raining. It's why we have a convertible. And as numerous people have said, clear, sunny but cold days are lovely to drive in. And whilst I'm not showing off, frankly I wouldn't give a shit if someone thought I was - it's one of my little pleasures in life.

I would hate a convertible. My hair is bonkers enough with general wind! I sat in the back of a friend's car on the way to a party and she had the roof down........think the Bridget Jones scene when she was on her way to the hotel with Daniel Cleaver.....Grin

I don't think the OP sounds 'nasty nasty nasty'.
I think that is pretty overblown.

She thinks her friend is being a bit odd and is a bit sniggery about it. I think she's wrong and a bit mean but let's not flay her.

She probably did look silly, yes.

I'd have done it though, and used to at any opportunity in the UK even in Feb. Now as a PP said, its too hot to ever put my roof down. Last time I did I almost ended up with heat stroke fucking desert

YANBU I cringe when my Mother does this but generally I do not get soft tops I know people love them and that it is their choice but I hate them!

Well just like you don't want to stay inside on a sunny day, just because it's cold, when you've got a convertible it's nice to have the sun on your face. Especially now, after a long grey winter. A sunny day, hot or cold, is just crying out to put the roof down and enjoy it.

It isn't cold because you have the heaters on. It's days like yesterday when I wish I still had mine. Maybe you think she's a bit show offy about it?

Report
Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2013 08:14

Heater on and roof down doesn't sound very environmentally friendly. Shock
