To want my neighbour to turn her music down.

Apologises, but just want to have a major moanfest about my neighbour and the volume of her music and her blooming loud tv. I mean if I had wanted to see Pirates of the Carribean I would put it on my tv not have to spend 2.5 hours listening to it through the wall.

Sigh, thing is I quite like her, but this issue with the loudness of her entertainment systems is killing me! I think i'm developing a nervous twitch. I know I can report her to the council and I have done before and she's all sorry and turns it down ... For a while and then all of a sudden. BOOM BOOM BOOOOM.

It's as though she thinks her flat is a detached house with an underground nightclub. Personally, I couldn't give a hoot what she does within the boundaries of her home, but the needless noise.

Have you asked her to turn it down persoally, rather than via the council?

Why don't you go round there and ask her to come with you right now back round to yours - without turning down her tv! and listen to it from your side?

Report her. Keep a log of all the times it's booming away - a video one, if possible.

Are her speakers on your adjoining wall?

If they are, it might even sound louder on your side of the wall and perhaps she could move them.

I'm having the exact same problem with my next door neighbours for the umpteenth time. Hmm Have lived here 5 years and next door is a private rental, every new neighbour seems to have a sound system of nightclub standards! The bloody walls vibrate! Currently living next door are 3 boys men housesharing. They're typical wide-boys, loud music all the time, racing their flash cars up and down the street with the music blaring, fights all the time. Fucking hate living in this shitty area.

Oh, believe me I have. I have brought her round, with a coffee and showed her what it is like and she admits that she can hear it and will turn it down. And to be fair she does.

I have written letters but it doesn't last and that's the problem. What do you do, apart from leave your house if it get too bad (and I have reluctently done this on occassion). I just have no more fight left in me. Also it's not on a daily basis. If anything it's worse because I never know when it's gonna happen. Sad

The music coming from my neighbour's flat is so loud and has been getting louder and louder. I finally wrote him a note (as he never opens the door) politely asking him to reduce the volume or move his speakers. Well, he told me to 'get a life!' offered the number of noise control and told me 'I was joking' if I thought he was going to move his speakers. Charming!

It's so awful when ths happens in your home which should be your sanctuary.

Sounds like your council are crap, as are mine, but start the diary anyway.

Do you rent? If so I would - if possible - consider leaving.

Seriously, though the noise laws are pretty naff and take too long to have an effect.

I want someone round tomorrow to remove the offending equipment.

Forget man and a van. I want man, a van and a pair of extra long shears!!!!

You know I would move but I love my house. It has everything I ever wanted (well for a city home) and I really, really don't to move.

I know I have to put up, kinda shutup and find a way to deal.

Thank folks for your kinds words. I have printed out the noise nuisance sheets and will be filling it in. AGAIN.

YANBU at all and I have similar problems. Although buize yours made me Shock how awful!

If you have tried being nice and dragging her into your place to hear for herself, its time to put your foot down. (2 strikes & you are out). Under the Housing Act you have a right to 'quiet enjoyment' of your property. Tell her you have been logging the noise & will take her to Small Claims Court and print off their website forms if necessary to wave at her . I found the thought of finding £3K to compensate you tends to concentrate noisy neighbours minds when all else fails. I didn't even have to go thru with my threat either, i just put the blank forms thru the door, saying you have 2days to turn it down or I fill in these and take you to court, because he wouldn't even open the door to me)! He moved out 2 weeks later. Sometimes when you are being nice about it, people take you for a mug: unfortunately then you have to show them you mean business ...

suggests she gets some cordless head phones, then she can have the noise levels as high as she likes and you won't hear a thing,it's a cheap solution.

Thanks for tip Sazzled41. I did not realise that I could go through the Small Claims court.

She sounds like she's reasonable and doesn't want to annoy you, which is a big big start. I guess you just ask again, but stress that it's really upsetting you and could you find a way to compromise?

Like maybe have each other's phone numbers so you can text and say if it's too loud and she can text and make sure she isn't bothering you.
