To be uncomfortable with people asking how much I earn?

Ok, it was just my mum. But still, I feel really uncomfortable saying it. Do other people know how much you earn?

I can't believe anybody would be so rude as to ask.

If anyone asks me how much I earn I say "tell me how much you earn first and then I'll tell you how much I earn". That usually kills the conversation.

It's not people, its your mother. FFS.
