I just love it. What I really want to know is where is cheery littlebottom? According to mn the name is taken but I've never seen it.
So far I have spotted
MrsTerryPratchett
NannyOgg
Greebo
IShallWearMidnight
TiffanyAching

And quite a few others I can't recall right now.
Who haven't I spotted / remembered and where is cheery?

Leonard - that computer game was fab! There were three in the series and they just got better, as I recall. Eric Idle was superb as the voice of Rincewind!!

Dwarfbread · 16/02/2013 00:08

Woo hoo, anyone hungry? There's always....

MrsTwoflower · 16/02/2013 00:12

All happy now......

OutOfCheeseError · 16/02/2013 00:51

Softlysoftly - I had the Discworld noir game, I got about halfway through but the game crashed every time I tried to go past a certain point :( also, I remember the music drove me a bit demented!

My geek credentials are well and truly established now, I think...

itsallinmyhead · 16/02/2013 01:15

My heart just skipped a beat, OP. I would live in Discworld, or TP's garden shed, if I could!

I'm now kicking myself for not thinking of a DW themed name and because I've just started a thread whingeing asking if I'm a figment of my own imagination, I can't really do it now.

ItsallisnowaFeegle · 16/02/2013 01:25

And...Itsallinmyhead is now ItsallisnowaFeegle! Thank you for this thread, HerrenaHarridan

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/02/2013 01:50

Isn't MrsTwoflower, you know dead?

Hi ItsallisnowaFeegle, you are now part of a quiche, not invisible at all.

SacharissaCripslock · 16/02/2013 02:57

I haven't used this name in aaaages. This was the first MN name that I felt properly at home in. Grin

Thumbwitch · 16/02/2013 06:42

Oh I do love to spot the TP fans! I haven't a specific TP name, obvs, but my witch credentials are a small hint Grin.
I'm just re-reading the entire series in order again - just finished Men At Arms :)

HerrenaHarridan · 16/02/2013 10:26

Hi feegle, welcome to the discworld quiche Grin
when I finish my tunnel into uu I will pm you it may take a while though its fairly difficult to navigate in such a strong magical field so I keep ending up staring at the back of my own head!

When I first read them I read them in order, borrowing my best friends and filling in the gaps by buying them and adding them to her collection. When I finished the dw series I started on the others, when I finished the others I read characters series. Then I just dipped in and out as I felt like. ( a whole 18 months of my life whereby every spare second was spent in dw)
I was so completely absorbed they really feel like my own memories Smile

To this day I can open the books at any page read a line and see it.
Whenever I really need life to just stop for a little whole and give me a break I open one of the dw series ( in the same compulsive, unstoppable way an alcoholic reaches for the booze!)
maybe I should have called this thread discworld anonymous Grin

It's not obsessive to own them all though is it? Really?

I even have The Unadulterated Cat Blush

MissAliceBand · 16/02/2013 10:51

Which is in itself a fabulous MN name.

Thumbwitch · 16/02/2013 11:23

MissAlice - I have that too. :)
And no, it's not obsessive. Of course it isn't!
I don't have quite all the books though - I only have Strata, not Dark side of the Sun. And I didn't much like Strata

HerrenaHarridan · 16/02/2013 11:45

Shock Thumbwitch! How dare you blaspheme so!

Actually, at risk of being hounded off thread, I don't enjoy CofM and LF as much as the rest. They're good but he really got his teeth in about equal rites

TheDisorganizer · 16/02/2013 11:53

Ah no, see I would disagree with you a touch there, Herrena (Tis Thumbwitch! I found one that no one else had! Grin) - I think that it actually took until Sourcerer before he really settled into his stride; and found alternatives for the word "scream", which Rincewind did entirely too much in the first two books.

But yes, I was lent those first two and wasn't that impressed; but was intrigued enough to carry on borrowing them up to Mort and then started buying them (and of course then bought the first 4 too). I admit that I sometimes omit the first two from my re-read when I do it (every few years) but this time I did go right from the beginning.

MissAliceBand · 16/02/2013 12:16

CoM was not my favourite. The first one I read was actually Wyrd Sisters - I was 11.

I think if I'd read CoM at that point I may not have loved them as much as I do.

HerrenaHarridan · 16/02/2013 12:16

Yes disorganizer ( brilliant nc)
Rincewind although popular is a limited character, there is only so many vaguely plausible ways you can run away and still be reluctant hero (saved by your luggage Envy)

I really liked equal rites although I was very sad that esk didn't get what she deserved. Her reappearance even made me sad. Fantasy does not have to be so realistic!

I always wonder what it would be like to read say thud first. Would it standalone as a brilliant book or is much of the magic to do with catching up with old friends?

Death is by far my favourite though - I adore him.

TheDisorganiser · 16/02/2013 12:19

Gosh, there's a thought! I think it would be really tricky to get a lot of the nuances of the book from a standing start, but we'll never know! Need to find a sucker guineapig to try it out on, maybe! Grin

(still me, I've just changed from z to s)

I LOVE Death. And Greebo.

TheDisorganiser · 16/02/2013 12:20

AND the Librarian. (How could I forget?!)

MissAliceBand · 16/02/2013 12:24

And Lord Vetinari is brilliant too.

Am I the only person who's seriously considered which guild/organisation would be worth joining?

Assassins for me (obviously) I have rather a soft spot for Lord Downey - not least because his name is my maiden name!

TheDisorganiser · 16/02/2013 12:45

Oh no, I didn't fancy the extremely competitive nature of the final exams of the Assassins Guild! Alchemists for me. Grin

UptheAnkhwithoutapaddle · 16/02/2013 13:00

Rarely post but name changed in honour!

I like to think I have a foot in two camps with this one.

Shouldnt that be Uptheankhwithoutashovel UP?
