To think Gazza is not a national treasure

Am not saying serves him right that he's so ill, or anything of the sort - I know alcoholism is a hideous disease.

But I can't be the only one that has trouble getting past the fact that HE BEAT HIS WIFE AND BROKE HER FINGERS. Can I? Surely being good at kicking a ball doesn't cancel that out?

I haven't seen it written about him for years, but YANBU, he isn't a national treasure, he is a bit of a twat by all accounts, any tiny shred of respect or dignity he had left was lost when he showed up with a picnic and a few beers for a murderer when there was an armed stand off going on.

A national treasure? Ooh no. I feel sorry for him and anyone in such a mess. But he is not a national treasure just cos he once played football nicely, cried on a football pitch because he was naughty and couldn't play in the next match.

Isn't Dame Judi Dench our national treasure?
Can you have more than 1 national treasure?

He was a fantastic footballer and many people remember him for that and his part in getting England to world cup semi final. I find the whole situation desperately sad. I am not making excuses for what he did.

Not a national treasure at all, hes a wife beater and emotional abuser to his children.

But as ever, there will always be people who think that celeb can do no wrong and see him as some sort of hero.

He was a highly gifted footballer who wasted his talent boozing and beat his wife.

It always makes me laugh that Cheryl's daughter Bianca has taken Gazza's surname. I mean, he's not her dad, they only lived together for a number of years, her mum has been divorced for him for yonks so why oh why does she insist on calling herself Bianca Gasgoine. Trying to climb the social ladder obviously by stealing his name, could have picked a better one.
