To think they could've found a better singer than Hugh Jackman?

Went to see les mis last night with my dm. Loved it. Genius casting of Helena Bonham Carter & Sacha Baren Cohen as innkeeper and his wife. But surprised Hugh Jackman got the lead as his singing voice is not that brilliant. He is a fabulous actor though so maybe that swung it for him.

Did Hugh Jackman SING?? oh my, shall have to see it again as I was in a stupor with er...... admiration

Didn't Eponine have a weirdly small waist, though? Her belt was so tightly cinched I wondered how she got the breath to sing.

DowntonTrout · 14/02/2013 10:55

I expect she wants to put her time on a talent show behind her Hormonal

The fact she didn't win just goes along with all the usual x- factor things whereit isn't often those that win that are the most talented or successful.

Her waist was freakishly thin though, I wondered that too.

NicknameTaken · 14/02/2013 11:16

Don't get me wrong, I think she is beautiful and has a lovely figure - it just looked really uncomfortable to me.

Clawdy · 14/02/2013 11:17

HJ was a wonderful singer in "Oklahoma",his first real starring role.

NopeStillNothing · 14/02/2013 11:27

I wasn't blown away by Eponine. Not sure if they somehow managed to give her less Spotlight but even though her voice was fantastic, I barely remember her performance.
I think someone upthread had it right when they said about stage productions and television productions being completely different and needing different types of acting to 'excel'

Punkatheart · 14/02/2013 11:34

She wore a corset.

Found Sacha and Helena quite tiresome. Crowe had one note.

But Mr Hugh...oh Mr Hugh. In another life, when I am no longer in my own version of Les Mis with my bloody awful life, he can sing to me, smile at me, take me in his wolfish arms.

I am more than a little in love with the divine Mr Jackman.

(He always seems down to earth, funny, sexy and friendly when interviewed.)

He can sing like a foghorn and I wouldn't care.

But I so wanted Crowe to jump.

WilsonFrickett · 14/02/2013 11:43

at Punk, yep, I was (silently) going 'Jump then FGS! Just jump!'

NicknameTaken · 14/02/2013 11:45

Agree about Russell Crowe being one note, both in song and performance.

And you've a fight on your hands for sweet Hugh, Punk.

Megatron · 14/02/2013 11:46

Jackman can do no wrong for me so YABU! :)

greenandcabbagelooking · 14/02/2013 11:56

Aaron Tveitt has been in lots on things on Broadway, including Rent and a brilliant show to Next to Normal.

Samantha Barks played Eponine in London and at the 25th Anniversary.

Anne Hathaway was excellent IMO, a new take on the role.

Russell Crowe was rubbish. He killed Javert's Suicide. No pun intended!

TroublesomeEx · 14/02/2013 13:06

Punk you will have to fight me for him, too. And I'm small so I fight dirty... Wink

I've never really paid any attention to him before but I'm in proper teenage love with him. God I need a life! Grin

Thingiebob · 14/02/2013 13:11

I thought Hugh Jackman was one of the few actors in the cast who has sang on stage.

I thought he was very good but definitely too much vibrato in his voice and Amanda Seyfried sounded like she was out of her natural range.

Punkatheart · 14/02/2013 13:28

Here's wishing you all a lovely Valentine's day. The doorbell rang and I rushed to it - expecting him, hoping that he was here.

A large man with sweat stains, dirty t-shirt and a snotty nose said:

'Oover for you, love.'

Now I have a vacuum in my life.

TroublesomeEx · 14/02/2013 13:42

er the 'naked hugh jackman' in the search box. Was that you...!!

Grin
TroublesomeEx · 14/02/2013 13:44

swoon

TroublesomeEx · 14/02/2013 13:44

oh didn't get the picture I wanted. Ignore me.

TroublesomeEx · 14/02/2013 13:45

I think I deserve to meet a man who looks like that the next time round, anyway.

Eebahgum · 14/02/2013 13:54

Oh my god punkatheart - I think you've just converted me!

The girl that played Eponine in the film is now playing Nancy in Oliver in Bristol. I know because my sister saw her in it last weekend and brought the programme home as proof - LOL.

I can't remember whether she was in the TV programme to find Nancy, but if she wasn't, she's certainly doing the role now - hopefully she charges a lot more now she's a Movie Star aswell! Smile

WakeUpRosemary · 14/02/2013 13:59

I had to see Les Mis with my DM and I have to say I thought Russell Crowe was great in it. It could have been the best film of all time if only Javert and JVJ realised that they were actually in love with each other and ditched the rest of the cast.

Punkatheart · 14/02/2013 14:02

Homo-erotic subtext. Love it. Well it is a story about an obsession.

If you ever get the chance to read the novel...do....it's amazing.

Me? Searching 'naked Hugh Jackman' - how very dare you!
