That I loved the book, but find the film War Horse boring?

It's just a bit meh. I loved the fact that the book was written from Joey the horses point of view, but they've missed that all out in the film! Such a shame, as the film could have been so much better.

YANBU I've never seen a film adaptation of a book that was better than the original. So rarely will I watch a film if I've already read the book.

wibblyjelly · 13/02/2013 17:45

I've got the hunger games to watch, I hope that doesn't disappoint. I'm just pleased I read the book first, as I may not have done if I'd seen the film first.

YA so NBU, I watched it for the first time about 4 days ago, formulaic old tripe I thought. I would like to see it on stage though, for the theatrical spectacle, iyswim.

VoiceofUnreason · 13/02/2013 17:51

See the play. It's astonishing

LadySybilPussPolham · 13/02/2013 18:16

I found the film really dull and disappointing. I haven't yet read the book but I can see how it has the potential to be so much better

photographerlady · 13/02/2013 18:18

Spielberg films always bore me :)

TENDTOprocrastinate · 13/02/2013 18:23

Yep film was dull dull dull. I watch a lot of films- I've know idea what the fuss was all about with that one. Very predictable.

As for the hunger games- the book is of course better (they always are) but it is a good adaptation/ quite close to the book.

DreamsTurnToGoldDust · 13/02/2013 18:25

The book and play were fantastic, the film I could have walked out of, I thought they totally ruined it and it was boring.

IThinkOfHappyWhenIThinkOfYou · 13/02/2013 18:26

I haven't read the book but the film was dull

blonderedhead · 13/02/2013 19:02

War Horse walks into a pub.

Barman says, why the long film?

wibblyjelly · 13/02/2013 19:37

Blonderedhead Grin !
I'd love to see the stage show, hopefully will do so when ds is a bit older.

Blonderedhead Grin

I thought I would love it but I found it boring. I have horses and anything sad involving them will normally have me howling, but I was left cold. I watched the real War Horse documentary that was on around the time the film came out and that was sad, all those poor horses who had been through hell, left to starve, be shot and eaten or worked to death Sad
There were some really good scenes in the film and it looked gorgeous in places, but even having Loki and Sherlock very briefly pretty ponies to look at couldn't save it.

Footface · 13/02/2013 20:58

The play is shit aswell

Footface · 13/02/2013 21:00

Should have said, tge play is long winded, very slow. I was praying for the horse to live/die so it would end.

The horses are amazing in the way they move though

wibblyjelly · 13/02/2013 21:24

I didn't realise Loki and Sherlock were in it. That's just made it slightly more interesting!

landofsoapandglory · 13/02/2013 21:26

I hate films, mainly because they never live up to the book if they are adaptations.

DS1 went to see the play with the school, he said it was absolutely brilliant.

Only for about 10 minutes but it's most homoerotic one of the best parts Grin

I apologise for my overuse of the strikethrough tonight.

wibblyjelly · 13/02/2013 21:49

I don't know how to strike through Sad

You put two - either side touching the word. So Loki but touching Loki (fans self at those words Wink) it gives you Loki

catgirl1976 · 13/02/2013 22:05

YANBU

The book is amazing (DH couldn't finish it he was so upset ;) )

The film is shite. Neither DH nor I could finish that because it was so dull and schmaltzy

HollyBerryBush · 13/02/2013 22:08

Seen the play - and in the voice of Zara Phillips - toatally amazing!

I dont get the chance to go to the theatre often these days, but it was enthralling. And yes, I cried like big girls blouse.

Leeds2 · 13/02/2013 22:08

The puppetry in the stage show was amazing. There seemed to be an awful lot of dialogue in German for my 12 year old (at the time) to understand!

wibblyjelly · 13/02/2013 22:19

Thanks muffin
