to not have had/made/gave the children ANY pancakes today?

We have very eggy pancakes rather often (started doing this when it was the only way to get DS1 to try egg when he was being weaned some 9 years ago ), I had another dinner planned and DSs had asked for apple crumble for dessert.

So I, for one, have been on Pancake Strike today, hmph

We had our pancakes on sunday.

DD1 (4) told me she didnt like the egg bit and could I please take it out :o

from your post our seems that your DCs are not really bothered and would rather have apple crumble...
I often find that pancake are more trouble than they're worth

None here either! I've only made pancakes once in my life, last year, and it was so stressful, I ended up in tears.

If DS (10) is that bothered, he can make them himself from now on.

YANBU. I had to make pancakes because I am a childminder and I had a 6 yr old, 2 x 7 yr olds and 3 x 8 years olds demanding them!

We didn't have them either. I was working all day, DH was off but forgot to go shopping to get eggs, plain flour and lemons. We had pizza instead. Kids upset for approx 30 seconds but I said we could have pancakes tomorrow instead.

Yanbu we didn't have them. Dp was working late and is now actually going to be home for two hours before going back to work...so made a corned beef hash and they had that with beans. They did pas cake stuff at school today and we will have them another day. Tbh they are a weekend breakfast treat, not something I can be parsed doing on a school night when I am getting a cold and I have a child with a bumped head to keep an eye on, homework to supervise and all the usual stuff to be doing!

i have to, its a ritual, particularly since dd now 13 wrote in her mothers day card when in reception that she loves mummy cos mummy makes pancakes Smile Blush

YABU. Pancake Day is sacred! I haven't had any pancakes either, my official pancake maker DH is away :(

dd1 had them last night (twice) - once helping at Beavers then at her own Explorers
dd2 had them a Breakfast club, then again at dinner time at school
But we still had them tonight.
I mean, you just have to, surely? Isn't it the law or something ?

I could cry. I very nearly did. I CANNOT cook pancakes to save my life. Seriously, 8 stuck-to-the-pan pancakes later and I'm waiting or DH to get home before I fling the frying pan out the door.

I'm the only non sick member of my house, we're doing it tomorrow, otherwise I would never have gotten away with it.

SocialClimber, the Scotch pancake recipe from Mumsnet is a doddle. You just have to convince the kids not all pancakes need flipping. Replacing my knackered pan also helped. Prior to that I used to heat the evil thing for a few mins, then run a kitchen towel with melted butter on it between pancakes. Typing this I am having memories of cursing the pan as I made pancakes. Sling the pan out of the door. You will feel better. (You can always get it back in later after a glass of wine.)

Yes, yes I do think I will feel better! It must be the pan now you mention it because I used to do them just fine...well, as youfhearted says, my first couple are always dodgy.

DH is doing them now but but I will try that scotch pancake recipe.

I had pancakes, my DSS has just returned from athletics and declared he wants more, he's 14 and can just about manage cold rice pudding. He's going to attempt to finish the rest of the mix and make his own. < fire brigade on speed dial>

I love making pancakes and make them all the time so don't find them much hassle. The trick not not have them stick is to heat the oil (butter?? what butter?) until it's really hot, then LET IT COOL DOWN A BIT for the first pancake. The rest will be easy-peasy.
I hate my non-stick pan as it is no longer non-stick and you can still not actually scour it. My stainless steel one is fab.

If it's any consolation, DS1's banned pancake day. We had rhubarb crumble for pud, tonight. Made with the first British rhubarb. A little pricey, but delicious.
