AIBU to want to go this pilates class tonight?

I have a sort of chesty cough but I feel completely fine physically and able to do whatever.

I've never done pilates before, so I don't know whether a cough would be disturbing to the class? I've done yoga before and wouldn't go to a yoga with a cough because everyone's meant to be relaxing, not listening to my cough, but I don't know whether pilates is similar in terms of relaxation and quiet?

I'd like to go though... any opinions?

Yes pilates is also meant to be relaxing. Tbh I wouldn't go to any group activity with a chesty cough, because regardless of the activity it will be distracting listening to someone coughing loads.

damn Sad it's not a bad cough or anything

PLease don't go if you have a cough. The moves are slow and flowing and having someone cough, cough, cough is really distracting.

It's a foul night too, stay home, get well and enjoy the next class Smile

Hmm I don't think pilates is relaxing like yoga is - at least neither of my teachers has been. Mine tends to screech 'NAVELS IN' periodically.

If you are not contagious I would go and advise the teacher at the start. But be prepared to find it challenging as it relies on breathing a lot and you might find that difficult.

Pilates is quite a holistic class so I wouldn't go with a chesty cough.

The rule is no strenuous exercise (increased breathing) if you have any symptoms below the neck. Pilates can be strenuous. The theory is that a sore throat or a stuffy nose would be fine but achy joints or a chesty cough is not fine.

A lot of Pilates is done lying down. I tend to skip Pilates if I have a cough of the type that results in a coughing fit when I lie down.

Seriously Cress she is terrifying! Last Friday some poor bastard stopped doing the hundred and she went 'Did I tell you you could stop?!'

She is semi-kidding of course. Semi.

The pilates teacher before that used to be a GB diver and she looked like a little slip of a thing until you saw her doing press ups. Yowch.

On second thoughts MrsTP is probably right!

I ended up going in the end! It was definitely not so much about relaxation, lots up "pull that up" "SQUEEZE" and joking around Grin

Coughed about 5 times (little ones) in the hour long class and now home and coughing like mad again!
